Just got early x-mas present pentax k100 camera
I know it can accept "older" non dslr lenses
does anybody use pentax, if so can you recommend a good lens that i might be able to pickup new/used for some occasional macro shots of my tank. I am not hard core photographer, but an avid reader and will be signing up for some photography classes at the local junior college soon.

that is EXACTLY what i want for x mass, except i already have lenses. i plan on using my, i wanna say 500 mm zoom lense. have you shot with it yet?

Will soon, just unpacking it all now, probably wont be home to take tank shots till tomorrow night. Will post some up, I am 20+ years of reefing, but finally decided to take up a new hobby of photography. The guy at the store said it would be easier to find older macro lenses for this than the cannon or nikon as the new 100 mm cannon and nikon lenses were around $700. too rich for my blood at this point.

yep the older pentax glass is some of the best stuff out there, and its relativly cheap too :) where did u get the camera from?

The top quality Pentax Macro is around 500 I believe (hopefully santa will be leaving one under my tree for my K10D :) ).

Any model #s??
I think I am looking for what they call a "K" mount.
I went to a used camera shop , some of the older lenses put the camera into AV mode, i cant figure out how to get it out of AV mode, or does that just mean the lens wont work. I understand that the AF system wont work on old lenses, I can manually focus. Just new to Pentax, my old 35 mm was a cannon, but I was never into photography.

sorry, 500 bucks...altho Ive heard the pentax smc-m 100mm macro is a capable lens that can be had for around $100 or less on ebay.

I have a Pentax K100D and my Father bought a K10D after trying it out.

He got a Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 macro and a Pentax 80-200 zoon for his.
he does some Macro photography and the Sigma does a great job.

I have the 18-48 Pentax Kit lens on my K100D and also use a Takumar 100-300mm zoom (150-450 effective on the Digitals) that I used to use on a ZX50 35mm Pentax.

I also have some old Pentax manual 40-80 macro and 80-200 lenses from the MS Super that I haven't tried to do much with yet.

Thats the great thing about the Pentax Digitals.. all the old K Mount lenses still work!

Here's a great accessory
THe F wireless remote (it's an IR remote)

It works with the K10D and K100D
it will run the shutter but won't Auto focus so focus before using it.
