Heres my deal (and I guess an announcement), looks like I am getting ready to become a homeowner for the first time. Got a great deal and a nice 1/2 acer of land out in christmas, fl. But its got a well. Just for the purpose of doing "checkouts" and inspections on the property I wanted to get the water checked. I am having an inspector come out monday, but he said he doesnt check on water quality only on functionality of the pumps and stuff. Anyone know where I can get it checked out....more for peace of mind than anything else......

and oh yeah....anyone want to help me move!:p

I know most water teratment companies like culligan will do a test for you, but you may want to get 2 of them to double check that the numbers somewhat match. Im not saying there all bad I never trust someone who has a direct gain to be made if your water is bad. Im sure theres independent testers somewhere near you though, try asking a building contratctor.
oh yeah uh sorry Im sick the day your moving cough cough :).............

Already have a tds meter, got one off ebay for $2+$4 shipping off ebay. Just wanted a little better than tds meter.

edit....and with that I am going to need an ro/di unit. Anyone got one?

A TDS meter does'nt tell you 'what' is in water, only that there is 'something' in the water..ie: 'Total Dissolved Solids'. In order for water to be tested for what is actually in it, chemicals are generally used. You want to know things like ammonia, copper , nitrates,phosphates..etc.,...at least that's what I would want to know. Why not bring in a water sample? You can also purchase an RO/DI unit while you are there..;) The RO/DI unit will bring the TDS of the water to 0, but I would still want to know the values for content that I mentioned, and possibly others.
Congrats on the purchase of the property! We just bought our first too.:)

Can you guys test for all that stuff at the shop? If so that would be great. I knew that I could tell something was there with the tds meter, but as you said, not whats there.

I have a colorimeter that's very accurate...I only have a couple of tests but could get some readings for you. Otherwise, there is a company that used to test out here in Geneva...I'll see if I can dig up the number for them if they are still around. You can try calling Marianne at AquaFX...she's an environmental engineer and can probably give you some info on water testing. She's great about helping out like that. Congrats on the new house!!! Exciting!

Yeah, I signed my bid contract on wed and woke up on the verge of a panic attack thursday morning. Thursday during the day the financing and costs started coming down and down to the point that my monthly ended up cheaper than I could have hoped for. I kinda had a range that I could afford a month, but it seems to have worked out. The drive will be a killer, but the 1/2 acer of land will be worth it. I like the sound of that...Im a landowner!

how fast would I need to get the water in. I will be out there monday but the store is closed and then tues I work all day. Can I put water in a jug and put it in the fridge and still get results?

This is one of those gift horse things...but would it be possible to drop it off and have you get back to me when you have time? I am coming in from christmas and will be heading directly to work. I will have to go by the store anyway on my drive. (you guys are great, no questions asked!)

You know marcye....now that I have a fairly huge house out in the middle of nowhere....and LOTS of space....AND will be spending lots of time at home by myself....maybe I need the big tank now!:p

(no no no, I am fine just the way I am!)

I would also look into what effects sulfur might have on a marine tank, and get the water tested for it if necessary. Anytime I have been in the country in Fl, the sulfur in the water was very prevalent.

We have a well at our house and it has sulfur. We don't have any problems but we do use an RO/DI...of course our freshwater tanks we use just tap water (no chlorine in the well) as we are on the "Geneva Bubble," some of the best spring water in the state.

did not stop by. There were some issues with the water pressure that are being checked out and figured the sample I could get would not be actually an acurate sample. New thread started about water quality and wells.

You could also check with a county extension agent most counties have them and a group of Master Gardeners that also help man the extension offices. They may be able to have the water tested for you. Master Gardeners take in soil samples on a regular basis. The form that is filled out to be sent in with the soil here in SC has an area, to be filled out if it is water to be tested.

Ask Frey water if they do that. They have been in business here forever and are really nice folks. They aren't one of those franchises who will try to sell you something you don't need.
