How's it going? We had a good time at the reef club meeting last night, nice to meet everyone. One question I had forgotten to ask.
While moving here one of the glass lids on our 90 gal was broken. Where is the best place to get a new one cut around here? I tried a framing shop, but their glass would have been too thin. Thanks for the help.

I would check at lowes or home depot. You can always order them online @ drsfosterandsmith.com, OR you could check w\ one of the LFS!

why use a glass top at all? it will just help to hold in heat and hinder with oxygen exchanges....i have never used glass lids

i can don't personally believe in them either, but if you cant find one by the end of the month, i could bring one up from the shop for you

City Glass on sw. 59th between Western and Walker can cut you any size you need pretty cheap.

The only reason I'd like a glass lid is that I don't have one of those nice covers, and to many fish seem to have the "jumps out of tank" label, and I'd like to avoid that. :)

You can use light diffuser/eggcrate for that. Ther is still a chance that a small fish can fit through there, but you should be able to control the temperature of your tank as well as keep it well oxygenated. There is a bonus with light diffuser. If you have it laying one direction, it will diffuse the light. But if you turn it over, it helps focus the light.

I'll admit to being completely ignorant on this one, what exactly is a light diffuser? :)
And to answer a previous question, I did ask one of the LFS on a replacement, and was told they only come in set's of two. Since I only need one, I figured I'd get some glass cut.

This stuff ;)

the picture that travis put up is a light diffuser, you can pick them up at lowes or home depot for about 10.00 a sheet

oh, i forgot to add that if you can find one that is barely cracked, you CAN get them to go down on it!!!! I got mine for 5 dollars and it was just missing one little square and had 2 other cracks on the corner wich i just cut off!!!! :-)

David, if your tank has an open back, just put the diffuser over the opening, not over the tank. That way you have easy access.

I get some hooks and just hang a piece across the back openings.
