My girlfriend bought me a new coralife 3 stage ro unit for christmas. when i went to hook it up and run it im still after about 30 gallons getting about 0.25 to 0.50 ammonia in the water, asked the guys at the store and they said its hard to get rid of it all and that i should try adding stuff to the water to get rid of the ammonia or that i need more pressure even though its hooked up to where my washing machine is. are they correct or do i just need a better unit. dont want to add ammonia to my reef, or mess with alot of chemicals.
any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks!

Coralife 3 stage filter are only RO you need to get a DI. RO's do not remove ammonia. It is from when the carbon remove the chlorine part of the chlorimines, the ammonia is left.. The ammonia molecule is smaller that a water molecule and if therefore passed by the RO.

You just need to get a add on DI like the Tide.

Unlike the breakdown of chlorine, one of the byproducts of chloramine breakdown, specifically ammonia, is of significant concern to reef aquarists. Ammonia will pass fairly readily through an RO membrane (discussed later in this article), but if there is a DI system, it should effectively remove ammonia.
