Need opinions on what to do??

I have a hard decision to make on what to do with my dt. I have a bad case of parasites & need to act fast.

Option#1- remove all of the fish (12) & place them in 2-3 qt's. The largest I have is a 55.:( I would then either use copper or hypo while leaving the main tank empty for 6-8 weeks.

Option#2- remove all of the lr & inverts from the dt & place them in qt. I would then hypo the dt.

I'm pretty sure the live rock would still harbor parasites so moving the lr to a QT wouldn't work. You need to quarantine all your fish and leave the DT fallow.

I would opt for option #1 if i were you.I am sure this is the tougher of the 2 options for you but i think in the end it will be the better option.I would opt for the 8 weeks just to make sure since you are going through all this trouble.

buy some large sterilite or rubbermaid containers to use as hospital tanks so you have enough tanks/space.

I had an ich outbreak in my 400 gallon DT back in September. I drained it and removed all my live rock (525 lbs) in order to catch my fish that were then moved to a hospital tank. I treated with Cupramine for the first 4 weeks in the HT, then iI kept the fish in there without any signs of disease for the next 4 weeks,. When they finally went back into my DT, guess what- the ich came back after about 2-3 weeks. Even when my DT was fallow, I was still running 2 Emporer Aquatics high output 80W UV sterilzers.
I am beginning to wonder whether your tank can ever be "ich free" as so many people on these boards say. I know is is a controversial issue. It makes sense to that that should be the case, but it never happened in my case.
I now just soak all my food in garlc and selcon and am watching the spots. My fish are active, eating well and behaving normally with the ich. Should the ich ever start to overewhelm my fish I will treat my entire DT with Cupramine including the live rock. Most people wil say that that is a terrible idea and I am not recoomending that you do this. My tank is a FOWLR . and there are some people on these boards that have doneexactly that sucessfully.
Good luck. My only real advice is to not waste your money on any of the so called "reef-safe" medications. Very few people would argue that those don't work and are a waste of money. If you decide to treat, hypo or copper are the only real options.

After over 5 hours of hard work I ended up removing all of the lr & placing the fish in a qt with cupramine. So far so good. As of this mourning they are all eating spectrum anti-parasite pellets w/ gusto. Does anybody know if it is safe to add prime to the water when there is copper present??

I ended up losing my red sea regal today.:( All of the other fish are acting fine & eating great. The regal was normal yesterday, eating & swimming, until I came home last night & found it laying on it's side on the bottom & breathing rapidly. It was dead this mourning.
