Hey guys,

So our tank was leaking from the trim on the top of the tank, (the black peice that sits ontop and holds the 4 peices of glass together)

Right now we've taken that trim peice off, removed all of the silicone on the glass, and now are ready to silcone it back on....

Whats the best way to do this? do we put the silcone on the glass and put the trim on it, or fill the trim up with silicone and put it on the tank??? There are still fish currently in the tank to.

Thanks guys!

I think I'd fill the gap in the trim, and then sit the trim on the glass and clamp or sit something on top to keep some wait on it.

Hey guys...my tank was leaking from the exact same spot.

I was told to use this epoxy stuff...it smelled like vinegar. I brought the water level down to below the leak, applied the clear epoxy with my finger while using disposable gloves. I let it dry for approximately 8 hours and then filled the tank up. It didn't affect anything in the tank at the time. Let me see if I can find what I used....It's called Aquarium Safe Silicone.

Well I think it wouldnt matter but you have to be careful not to get any in the water, It bonds I beleive in 24hrs.

You could also try filling it wth crazy glue...that's non-toxic. By the way, I also rubbed rubbing alcohol with a qtip before I applied the silicone and then dried it with a paper towel. Obviously, make sure the alcohol doesn't hit the water.

cool thanks guys, what a pain, we've had to sit chairs around the tank to hold towels ont he glass because it kept dripping.

It is a pain. My started leaking on New Years Eve and everything was closed! I had to wait for two days until the store opened up again!

Good Luck!

well we put to much silicone into the trim and now its all over the place, anyway to get it off before it dries???

Don't try to wipe it off. Wait until it dries and then trim with a single edge razor blade or exacto knife. Silicone is like trying to wipe off vasoline it smears. When it hardens up it is very easy to trim.

wow was the frustrating haha, hopefully everything turns out ok, there was tons of extra silicone so it should stick good. tomorrow i will have to scrape off the excess

Thanks guys!
