Need small inexpensive chiller.

Does anyone know what the smallest most inexpensive chiller is?
I'm planning a seahorse tank in the 30 to 40 gal. range.

I found this on a search, it is $235 including shipping and has no thermostat.

There must be something better out there.

No, not really. However, you may want to do a google search for "DIY chiller" as I know some people make their own from dorm refrigerators.

The Artica nano's are nice.

Depending on what the tank is running at you might be able to get away with an iceprobe if you only need a degree.

You can also check the selling forum here and find some great deals now and again.

Hi

I just bought an Aquamedic chiller for my Wifes fish house from a computer supplies company and it was half the price I was being quoted by fish shops. I'm sure a google search for computer chiller units will throw up a couple of leads.

My experience with the ice probes is that they won't do ENOUGH unless you're talking a really small tank (10 gallons or under). They're just a peltier device with a large heat sink smacked on them. And generally what little chilling they provide you can accomplish with fans set up properly. At a much lower cost, I might add.

YMMV, but I've know a few people to try them and be unhappy with them. I on the other hand, I made one for a 2.5 gallon nano reef and I was quite happy with it for that.

I've been wondering the same thing. I run my tank without a heater or a chiller and my temperature is stable, but I want to get a chiller so I can make sure it stays stable even in the summer. They are all so expensive though. I wouldn't need my water temp lowered, just maintained.

I might sell my chiller, it's this model http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...uct_Code=PC-CL-280&Category_Code=pacificcoast

I live in North NJ. If you want to get used chiller, I can sell it to you and we can meet someplace in Flushing area, I think you live in LI, right?

Send me a PM. It's only a year old and it's very good condition. I was using it on my 30G cube tank with 150MH light fixture and I was keeping my tank temp at 78 last summer without any problem.
