Need some help/advice

Ok I have a 30g saltwater reef tank thats been up and running for over 2 years. I have all kinds of soft corals along with a few hard ones, and no matter what I do I can not keep the hard ones alive. All my levels are good, I have 300w of VHO lights on the tank, plenty of flow, an Aqua C Remora skimmer, and a hang on the back filter designed for a 55g with filter media . I do regularly spaced water changes, and use good quality salt to make my own water. I am getting very frustrated with this. Any suggestions?

What are you're levels?

Do they fluctuate much?

What type of hard corals? Where are they from?

Not sure of the exact levels, as Im not at home at the moment, but they are all where they need to be. They remain pretty costant. I have numerous types of mushrooms, GSP, Leathers, a Clam, a hollywood stunner challice, Candy Canes & Christmas . The soft ones do great, the hard ones slowly die!

I would think the clam is the most demanding of good water perameters and lighting you're inhabitants. How long have you had the clam, is he doing good. I have had chalice and candy canes do well with poor water perameters and poor light, although just because you're softies are doing good dose not mean that all you're perameters are up to par and stable.
I started off with many of the same softies you have and have also killed many stoney corals while the softies were thriving. The problem, the best I can figure it was poor water chemistry, things I never even tested for the softies and or did not have the ability to accurately test can cause problems with the stonies. Many test kits do not accurately test nitrates and especially phosphates. Also calcium and alk is much more important with stoney coral. Another problem I had in the past was even keeping the temp stable, it was common to have fluctuations of 3 to 4 degrees before I got a controller. I have read that a 3 degree daily temp change is generally OK, but I do believ it was a contributing factor for some of the stonies dyeing.
