I would like to know what fish people have in there 75 gallon tank just upgraded and am looking for some ideas of fish to start QT while I cycle thanks for any ideas

i will assume this is a reef tank, since its reef central , lol so a kole tang, maybe a fairy wrasse. a few lyetail anthies.

That depends a lot on what you want to keep in the tank long term. If you want to keep coral and inverts that eliminates a lot of fish. IMO on smaller tanks I prefer to keep several small fish versus a single large fish. This answer may be all too common but I would find a clown breed that you really like and get a pair or two juvis that will pair up. Clowns are a hardier fish and a mated pair is a great scene in the tank. Do be mindful though that some clowns get large and pretty aggressive.

I enjoy going to the LFS and seeing an adult Wrasse or Clown fish. All to often you see a large foxface, tang, trigger, or various predatory fish. It gives you some perspective on what the future will look like. Just be ready for the reality slap! My pistol shrimp and my hermits are MURDERS! My new peppermint shrimp is dead before he even found the Aptasia. It's all good though however when you read that he sometimes eats this or they will not get along its most likely going to be true.

I have a 55gal mixed reef which is somewhat similar. Here is what I have or have thought of...

1 pair clowns (I think designer ocellaris are my faves, but obviously it is subjective, tomatoes/maroons get too big)

Chromis (started with three, down to two, will likely end up with one)

Firefish (I actually just like the regular firefish, not the fancy or purple)

Blenny either midas or lawnmower (you should not have two and Midas is prettier IMO, but lawnmower is downright a beast against the algae... I have a lawnmower)

Dragonet (mandarin or scooter blenny, MUST have good refugium in sump to breed copepods)

Flasher Wrasses (I would keep at least two terminal phase males so they flash each other but not same species. Carpenter and McCosker are very popular)

Kole vs. Tomini Tang (I'd also consider a yellow, but you might get a few that won't like a yellow in anything less than a 90)

Angelfish (just no)

Damsel (just no)

Royal Gramma (excellent personality, I personally don't like their look but I think I'm in the minority)

So there are some suggestions, I've likely missed a few that could fit in the bigger tanks but honestly what mostly fits a 75 fits a 55

Not sure what you have in terms of a Sandbed, but a blue spotted jawfush has tons of personality and is an absolute beautiful fish. Another One to look at(though pricey) is a golden assessor basslet. They'll swim upside down and is all kinds of directions

A midas blenny, Lyretails need more swimming room, might be able to get some Squarebacks though. Tomini/Kole is fun, a melanurus or christmas wrasse. Maybe a fairy wrasse. If you don't plan on shrimp, flame hawk fish have a ton of personality.

Liveaquaria.com is a good place to go to. They have a compatibility chart there as well so you know what fish get along with what.

..a few lyetail anthies.

125 gallons is the recommended minimum for a single Anthia.

Do be mindful though that some clowns get large and pretty aggressive.

Even the most peaceful species of Clowns tend to bite. My Ocellaris male bites me every time my hand goes into the tank. Jealous little b******, I guess.

Temperate water fish, often recommended to keep tank below 75f for this fish to live a full life.

LiveAquaria has a feature that you can use where you pcik the tank size and it finds you compatible fish. It only works for the fish in a single category but is a lot better than reading each fish's profile to find out the minimum tank size. Good luck and post some pics of your tank and what livestock you end up buying.

Thanks for all the info I have a 4 inch sand bed. I have been on that website just looking for what people have I know what it says but a lot of people put stuff that is not suppose to be in a size tank and they sell it or trade it when it is too big for the tank

i think lytail antheis would be fine. i have had mine for 6 months they are fat and healthy. i started with 4 (1 male 3 females) the weaker female died in about 6 weeks. she always hide, even the other females chased her. the male eats like a pig, but to keep the females fat i need to feed 5 times a day. they only eat very little at a time. they all eat very well, but the females wont eat as much as the male in one serving. so one male would be able to live no problem in a 75. the male will never hide, constantly swim around and is beautiful fish that adds life to any tank just my experience in 6 months i had them but i also have 80 lbs of rock in a 57 . so i have a lot of hiding spots for the female when my male is too frisky.

+1 on the Midas Blenny. I also kept a lawnmower blenny with mine and they both had awesome personalities. The lawnmower isn't real pretty, but he is a pretty cool fish anyway, plus he eats algae. Mine loved nori strips and pellets too. I'd also get some pajama or bangai cardinals, for your size tank I'd try 5. You may have some get killed off though. They are really cool as a grouping as long as they get along. I also love my fairy wrasse, though he is always ducking into the rocks when I come around. He is a fast swimmer though, and when you aren't right next to the tank you'll see him darting in and out of the rocks all around the tank.
