Need some Ideas.

Ok I want to make a rock wall out of eggrate and base rock on one side of the back of my 3 gal I am having trouble figuring out a way to attach it to the back so it will stay one suggestion I had that sounded ok was to use 2 pieces of eggcrate and attch the other at a 90 and bury it in the sand but I was thinking this might create dead spots what do you think. Or if you guys have any other ideas let me know. I don't want to use great stuff foam trying to do this with stuff I have on hand.

Those little zip tie mount things would work wonder where I could find them anybody know but I wonder aren't those adhesive on the back.

you can find zip ties of varying size / thickness at any hardware store. They don't typically have velcro on them.

Ask your hardware clerk for "zip" or "cable" ties and you'll be in business

No I know what zip ties are what I am trying to figure out is how to attach to the back wall of the tank to keep it from moving around and keep it stable, and what I was talking about finding are the little square things he used to attach it to the back wall which I think have an addhesive back hope this clears up what I am looking to do.

Sorry 'bout the misunderstanding ;)

I would be concerned about the adhesive in your tank - Why not look for suction cups?

My Ace hardware usually has a cup of them in the checkout line - I bet you could ziptie a couple of them to the eggcrate and then attched to the tank wall.

I thought about that also am wondering though suction cups have been known to fail maybe if I did enough I would be ok. What do you think about another piece zip tied at the bottom at a 90 degree angle then buried in the sand this was suggested to me on the other board I frequent but I was thinking the eggcrate might create dead spots in the sand. Yeah I was concerened about the addhesive also was wondering if anyone had seen them with out the addhessive.

You might be able to drill a hole big/small enough in the lip of the top trim to fasten the eggcrate

The sand will fill the voids in the eggcrate, so I don't think you'll have to worry about dead spots.

With all these suggestions I'm giving you, I expect to see pics of the finished wall and tank! :D

Ok it will be a couple weeks before I have it up and running. Oh and it is a no go for drilling the trim since there isn't one so I may just try the eggcrate in the sand idea.

Rimless - Nice!

What about molding a small piece of acrylic to clip tank edge and cable tie to it.

I used the clamp thingy that comes with some powerheads and fashioned a small bracket to hold the float switch on my ATO - You might be able to do the same.

G'luck with your setup! I'll be watching for it

Here is the one I did on mu 50g. The rock on the right side of the tank is zip tied to eggcrate and held in place by one of the returns. I drilled the LR and zip tied it through the back so I would hide as much of the ties as possible and create shelving for frags. But as you can see my Elegance took over that side of the tank. I was going to do a complete rock wall but I was advised it would become a nitrate factory so I did half then angled the rest of the rock toward the left front to the tank It's hard to see in this pic but it's the best one I had right now. this pic is about two months old.
