Need someone's opinion

Hello All,

So, about a month ago, I had an issue in my DT. At first I thought it was ich, but now I am not sure. I noticed a spot on my coral beauty angel and decided to remove him from the tank. We brought him to the LFS and asked if they thought it was ich. The LFS said it could be but didn't seem definitive. So, it turns out what I think happened to my coral beauty was that it was poked by my magnificent foxface by accident. While in the DT the two would swim together, and when the fish were ready to bed down, the coral beauty would usually pick a spot directly above the foxface. Since the foxface sleeps with his dorsal spines up, I think the coral beauty ended up hitting them.
So after I seen this spot I removed all fish to two QTs. The unfortunate part is my QTs are only 10G each. My fish have been in the QTs for about a month. When I filled the QT I used some water from the display tank. I did pick up cupramine, but have not used since there none of my fish have had signs of ich. I know the fallow period is 72 days, but if I have not treated my fish for ich, they have no signs of ich, then is it safe to say the spot really wasn't ich and my remaining fish can go back into the DT?
By the way, my coral beauty ended up succumbing to his injury. I also had a powder brown tang that I later died after being in the QT, but I am almost positive it was from an ammonia spike.
I will be away for two weeks this month to go home for Christmas. My landlord will be watching my tanks. I really want to put my fish back in the DT, particularly the foxface because he is so unhappy with being in the QT.
My question is, if it were you, would you put them back in?

Thanks!

Do you proactively quarantine your fish and other livestock? What was the last thing you added and how long ago? What signs did the CB show that made you think ich?

Unfortunately, I haven't quarantined in the beginning. My tank is about 4 months old. The last thing I added to the DT was two leatherback corals. These were added about 1.5-2 months ago. I have gotten a cleaner wrasse during this process but he has been in quarantine from the beginning. The CB had what I thought were white spots. I have dealt with FW ich. So, I suppose what made me think it was ich was because there was a white spot on him, but I think it was caused by his injury. I am finding it difficult to believe it is ich because none of the fish have showed signs and it's been at least 1 month.
In short, I suppose the last thing I added to the DT was my foxface. He was added about 2 months ago.

@snorvich. I am familiar with the fact that ich doesn't need to be visible to be present. I understand the lifecycle of ich. So, I suppose what I am looking for is an opinion, either from experience, expertise, or both. I find it quite difficult to believe that ich would be present when no fish has shown signs of it in the month they've been in quarantine. If I understand correctly, from other threads, there is a percentage rate of the likelihood ich is still present in my fallow DT. I suppose I am also looking for an opinion as to how likely ich would be in a tank that never showed it in the first place.
Normally, I wouldn't mind keeping the fish in quarantine for the full 72 days, but with me going away for nearly 2 weeks, I'm concerned for the well-being of my fish (particularly the foxface due to his size and the size of the QT).
My landlord will be coming in to feed them, but I cannot expect him to be doing small daily water changes as well. I figured if I put them back in the DT and there are no signs before I leave (Dec 23) they may be okay until I come back.
I'm just in quite the predicament and am looking for opinions from people who are more experienced in SW hobby.

Thanks. I'm just so scared. Do you think I should wait until a bit closer until I leave, or should I do it now, so if there is a problem, I may be able to catch them and treat them?

Yes, I read that you thought you saw spots but was there any flashing, heavy breathing, etc? How long were the spots present? If it was only one large spot and it lasted more than a week then it would be pretty safe to assume it is not ich.

Well at first it appeared as one or two tiny white spots that didn't stay long except for where it appeared there was an injury. I seen some tiny spots on the tang but am not sure it was actually ich, it sort of looked like air bubbles. There was no flashing or heaving breathing that I seen.

Could the spots have been sand? How long did they stay on the fish? Minutes, hours, days? If less than 3 days I would again go with either injury or sand given that no other symptoms are present.

I'm taking a chance and putting my clowns and foxface back in the DT. Hopefully everything goes well! Thanks for all your help Newsmyrna80!
