Need suggestion for in sump return pump

Friend needs an new return pump for his tank. He is looking for 1300-1500 GPH. Since I am upgrading my return to a Maxi Jet 900 I have no experience to tell him what is good. So suggest away. Thanks

Spiffyguy, i like my mag drive pumps, but some say they add alot of heat, prob. a mag 18 to get 1300-1500 at output.

Yeah I love my maxi jets and I would assume the larger ones would have the same quaility. The wattage, ie heat, is a concern for me. His top is very open and he never has heat problems so that may be an option. He was looking into a quiet one pump but I have no experience on those either. I am a small tank man lol.

I'd also be leary about the pressure if you're using a SCWD. Mags aren't the greatest pressure rated pump.

oh really. My friend will have a check valve on the line too and that will create some pressure too. He is still up in the air about using the squid or not. What would be a decent in sump pressure rated pump?

He doesn't like to spend cash but if it a quaility pump he will pay for it. I would think top end would probably be 100 bucks. I know the ones he has been looking at are around 60-75.

He can't go external with his set up. I will ahve to check with him on the mag 18. Thanks for the info.
