Need suggestion on return pump for 180 gallon.

I need some suggestions for a return pump on my 180 gallon tank. My tank is the AGA RR with two overflows and two return lines. I currently have a Quiet One 3000 I thought I could use, but while reading the Reef Hobbyist online it says I should have 5 times the tank volume running through my sump. This pump would not provide enough for that. There will be, most likely, 3 or 4 90's in the return line. It will need to travel up 5 feet. Can anyone suggest a good pump to me? Thank you.

I used a Blueline 40HD-X for my 180 - It runs external of the sump. I split the returns with a T-reducer. It was more than adequate; in fact had to be throttled back just a little bit...`

I still use that pump in my water system... very reliable.

I am using the Pan World 150PS - it's been in 24x7 service for nearly 4 years. Awesome pump - built like a tank and engineered extremely well.

I've heard those are good pumps. I was hoping to pick up something used to reduce the cost. Since you guys are using those powerful pumps, do they feed something else as well or do you just run it full power? Also, how much flow ends up running through your sump?

I ran a Reeflo Tarpon on my 180. It is a great pump. Upgrading my tank. Pump is in the classified section.

Gina - All depends on how you want to create the flow in your tank, what components you want to drive on the return or overflow and finally how much you want to spend on electricity.

I used a sequence 750 in the past for a 210G (3600 GPH @160 watts) which also drove chiller, skimmer and calium reactor) and worked flawlessly for years. For your 180 you could go 1000 to 3000 GPH.

For internal circulation consider power heads (Tunze, etc) to minimize electricity.

Hi,
I am going to be using a reeflo super dart for a closed loop. Pump will only be used for the return. I will not run anything else through it. How much flow should run through the sump? I've heard around 400 gph. In a large reef is it the same? Ugh. Thank you plankton for your help.

Gina - That would be fine. Then consider an eheim 1260 (65 watts)/1262 (80 watts) or Tunze T1073.040 (42 watts). Both these pumps are very reliable and very quiet.

I liked the old eheim 1060s much better because they didn't have as much vibration as the 1260s do but still a very quiet pump.

Reg 40 blueline pump on the same tank.
Reeflo barracuda for CL

Do the Blueline pumps run as hot and use as much electricity as the old Japanese Iwaki pumps?

Smoothie - Do you have any pics of your CL using the Reeflo Barracuda?

Thanks.
