need to catch a foxface

I am sitting in my family room right now trying to catch a foxface that killed 2 plate corals and has started to rip apart zoas. It has been a while now, I need some help.

after the lights go out wait a couple hours then go with a flashlight or even turn the actinics on and you should be able to net him while he is sleeping.these guys are some of the easiest fish to catch in my opinion.good luck and be careful not to get poked with his fin!!!!!

draw him to the front of the tank with some food and then quickly turn off the lites and net him, they become temp disoreintated when the lite shuts off

netting a foxface usually ends up not going so well. their poisonous spines will get caught and the fish will be virtually impossible to remove without getting stung. i would use a trap or a hard plastic container (like the ones you hang on the side of tank for babies) to remove the fish.

I think the trap plan is a good one. I took a feisty 8" moster out of my tank last month and he tried a number of times to "spike" me.

I did eventually tire him out and he basically walked into the net after about 45 minutes but it was a pretty tense 45 minutes.

get a trap, better than a trip to the hospital.

I am having trouble. The net and trap are both sitting in the tank now and the lights are going to turn off soon. I guess I will leave them in there to make sure that the fish get comfortable with them. Any more pointers?

Are you putting food in the trap? Why is the net in there if you got the trap? It'll take a day or two before the fish is willing to enter the trap for the food. Be patient.

I had to catch a fairly large yellow tang this morning, and it took less than a minute. Here is what I did:

I went to the tank early this morning while the room was still dark. I shut off the ph's to improve my view from above. I had the net in one hand and a turkey baster in the other. Turn on the lights...This renders the fish blind for about two minutes. I prodded him from behind with the turkey baster and as he swam around to the front of the rocks it was easy to net him.

He sleeps and spends a good part of his day hiding in a cave that pretty much spans the width of the tank and you cant get a net into. I would take a turkey baster and try to flush him out of the cave, but this fish is so jumpy that I would bet that he just flattens himself against a wall, loses his color and breaths heavily instead of moving. Not only this, but the fish is probobly on 3-3.5", so he ca still get into relitively small holes pretty easily.

i took the net out and put more seaweed in it b/c my powder blue tang is the only one going in the trap to get the food.
