I need to frag my star polyp, i was given a frag about a year ago, the size of a quarter, today i think it would cover half a plate, anyway, do i need to cut it before it opens in the morning, can i use a rubberband to attach it to a rock, should the section i cut just peel off? thanks for any help

You cant kill GSP, just rip it into a few pieces and put it where you want it to grow. But becareful what you wish for, soon it will start covering everything.

Curious, if I were to frag my GSP and attach to a piece of say slate rock (only because it is flat) would it adhere to it okay? I would like to have a flate covering of GSP's and place it on my sandbed.

probably although if you are in doubt you could always use something sharp to scratch the surface to roughen it up a little, to be sure they had someplace to grab onto.

It should be fine on slate, but I never put slate into my SW tanks out of fear of leaching etc... All you need to do is rip it off the rock, if you can not get hold of a corner to do this try using a set of dental picks to pry underneath. Once you have it use some super glue gel to adhere it to the rock of your choice. Place a small drop on the rock and swirl it around in your water it will get hazy, do the same to the frag then press both together place back in your aquarium and wait. It can take your GSP a while to return to full extension following a frag session. Some recover quickly, I have seen some extend within several hours, and I've seen colonies extend after weeks.

Have fun and don't worry, if your GSP is growing good it will be fine.

thanks for the info there... iv got a rock that is completley incrusted in the stuff, its grown up on the side of my plastic fuge even.... nice to know i cant kill it....
