need to raise magnesium!!!!

by jdieck
If you have access to Epsom Salts and Magnesium Chloride (Mag Flake) you can prepare your own supplement by mixing 3/4 of a cup of epsom salts with 7-1/4 cups of Magflake.

Do you need to mix the two or does one just add Magflake??

MAG Flake alone is OK, but also using Epsom salt may be a bit better, especially for routine use. It helps prevent chloride from rising relative to sulfate in the tank water. I just use MAG flake to boost my IO, then once in a great while I use Epsom salts by itself.

FWIW, I'm not a fan of the Seachem product as it is not ionically balanced. Kent, ESV, and the DIY are all better balanced.

Mix them together in one gallon of pure water and shake very well. It might get clowdy or might get some sediment, again just shake well, it is OK to add some of the sediment as far as it is uniformely suspended in the water, this is why shaking well before ading it is important.
In the calculator select "Randy's recipes 1 and 2 parts A and B"

Check out bulkreefsupply.com. They have kits you can buy with both products as well as instructions on how to mix them. In the long run it's WAAAAAAY cheaper than buying products that are premade.
