Need Your 2 cents: YWG vor Blennie?

Hi all.

I have a 35g tank with a 2-3" sand bed that I've been thinking of adding a YWG to for quite sometime. However, after doing some research I'm noticing a trend that people are experiencing that has me concerned about this fish > they often lose that vibrant yellow color and turn brown. :hmm2:

The theory is that this is color loss is due to stress while being acclimated to a new tank, but there are those who have experienced this long term as well.

I do not plan on having many fish in my tank, so the fish I do select I'd like to be as vibrantly colored and reef safe as possible. I'm not sure I want to risk buying a YWG and then watch his color fade over time into something I dislike.

I've read many, many threads on YWG on this site and people always suggest Blennies over YWG due to having better personality and being more fun to watch.

I'd like your opinion on what fish species you would choose if you had to pick 1, and why? If you have a specific Goby or Blennie fish you feel would best suit my tank please say so! Thanks all! :spin1:

I have a YWG. For over a year now. Depends on the fish as far as losing its color. Mine when he first comes out of his den in the morning is greyish with stripes. Also does this when sleeping. But perks right up when he's out in the open. Cool fish but usually hangs out by his den most of the day. Never goes more than 6 inches from it. YWG and pistol shrimp seem to be the best combo for activity. I am waiting for my LFS to get a red banded pistol so I can try and buddy them up.
Blennies do have more personality(funny eyes) but can nip corals. Mine was feasting on my brain. Also has cool markings like war paint when they sleep or in defense mode. Just saying both are awesome fish.
