Hello All,

I am trying to work up a design for my future tank upgrade. I have it narrowed down to ~225g 72x30x24. Ive never owned a tank even half this size so the equipment is pretty much all new to me.

I dont think I want to go LED for this tank (Going to be too expensive and still unsure about this for large tanks) or MH (dont want to battle heat problems. So I think ill go for the T5 fixture. My question is should I get 2 36" fixtures or a 60" one? How many bulbs should I go for? 6 or 8?

At first I was thinking I would do dual return pumps but now I feel like maybe 1 is enough. Does anyone have a recomendation for a solid, quiet external pump. I know Iwaki's are tanks but not sure about the noise. Im also unsure of the flow I should try to achieve. I was thinking a pump that would handle 1200-1500 gph probably split so that the end result will be 2 sets of outlets in the tank (4 total).

Is there anything I need to really consider when stepping up from a 90 to a tank of this size?

Anything that you all wished you had bought/ordered on your tank/ or done to your set up from the get go?

You can see my current equipment list in my sig. Ill try to salvage as much of that as possible. Probably add 2 MP-60's along with the 40's for flow. Hopefully i can reuse my GFO reactor. It holds 6 cups and Ive never gone over 3/4 of a cup of GFO now with my current set up.

The rest including the Radions will probably go into a frag tank project that I want to start as well.

sounds like a nice start.

for lighting Id go with ATI ... personally Id go for the 60" with 8 bulbs [I run that on my 200G right now] ... 2 36" means u need to buy 16 bulbs each time ... if your budget allows, get the new LED hybrid ones, its about 1K more.

pump I use internal, so cant comment.

water changes, and top off water, and humidity ... these are big Issues that need to be planned out well.

how about skimmer ? what are the plans there ?

Like he said, I've heard that humidity can catch you off guard, but living in the city of humidity already, maybe it won't make much difference.
