Well that sounds good I don't have a sump setup yet I was tryin to figure if I should change my 10 gal into one I don't know if that's big enough cause my tank is only 30 gal once I get the hang of that I would be upgrading to 55 gal. Do u think the sump is worth setting up for a 30 gal reef setup??

I had a 20g that I used a 10g sump when I started before i upgraded to my 75g. now I have the 20g as my sump.

Naw its just a plan ol 10 gal I got off craigslist a long time ago and I got it cleaned up. I was gonna find one of those diagrams that I seen researching and build it. I spent a lot of time in the DIY thread. Soon as I see a 55 gal on craigslist I'm going for it. I'm getting rid of these hermit crabs this weekend its been real tho.

I meant to ask about your display tank.

If the display tank is not drilled to be reef ready, you will need to use a HOT overflow or get your tank drilled for an internal or external overflow box. If you have a sump, you can hide equipment in there and keep it out of the display.

However, I don't really see any problem for not having a sump. You don't gain that much water volume by adding a small tank like 10 gallon as a sump after all. Having a sump means adding a return pump, which can add heat to the water. That's not a welcome thing in the summer time for a small tank.

Ah makes since well ill hold on to the canister for a little while some people have contacted me wit some great prices on their skimmers for sale that I'm gonna look into but they all are so far away I gotta plan for that... When I finish learning I'm gonna start a 55 gal agressive tank ill use a sump for that.
