Nem selection

Hello - I have 2 (pairing, yay!) clowns. I think they are percula clowns, because a) the lfs sold them as such, and b) the coloration seems to fit the bill, but I'm not 100% sure and wonder if they are fales percs. I have a hard time counting the spines on the dorsal fin, so if you have any ideas on id, thanks.

However, my question is more of a conundrum. I need to pick an anemone that has a shot at hosting my little love-fish. I do not want to go with the natural host because of their size and level of difficulty.

What species would give me the best shot of hosting my fish perc or false?

Honestly, your tank is too small, and much too young to support an anemone. I would just keep the clowns for now, and let the tank age for awhile. Then maybe you could consider adding something else for them to host in.

What type of lighting do you have?

Clowns will sometimes host in some corals, like mushrooms, or xenia. You may want to research a bit, and find out which corals might be suitable for your tank.

Good luck!!!

It's 6 months old - i'm not looking for flames, just some advice on if any of the smaller species of nems would host perculas or ocellaris

there are no small anemones that host clownfish if you find a small anemone it will outgrow your tank i would reccomend using a frogspawn or hammer coral as a supplimental host it can thrive in your tank where an anemone never could

your not getting flamed just the truth there are no small host anemones

Sorry if I came across rude, I didn't mean to. I personally don't like it when someone comes here with a question, and gets treated poorly instead of getting help.

It would not be in the best interest of an anemone to put it in a smaller tank. I was just trying to suggest some alternatives to an anemone. There are quite a few things clowns will host in. My false percula loves a small torch frag that I recently got. Some other things that might work are mushrooms, xenia, frogspawn, hammer, torch, long tentacle plate coral. I'm sure there are more, I just cant seem to think of them right now. I think with the torch, hammer, or frogspawn branching would be your best bet. As it grows out you can easily frag it to keep it the right size for your tank.
