Neon goby and preditors

Has any had any luck keeping a neon goby in a preditory tank that may include sharks, eels, groupers, rays, lionfish and frogfish???

It is unlikely you will be able to do this as the fish is native to the tropical Atlantic and all the fish above you listed unless one or more is from the Atlantic will not recognize this fish as a cleaner. The frogfish without question will eat them if they can catch them. They will also eat any other fish they can catch as well. I've had mated pairs in my reef tank and they are great little fish and do keep disease down. If your concerned about disease outbreaks make sure you have adequate filtration on your tank. At the top of the list should be a high quality skimmer-don't spare any expense on this piece of equipment. IMO it is the most important part of your tank. High water quality is paramount to keeping fish healthy and long term.

it's not for disease control but natural behavior. Plus i don't wan't a cleaner wrasse because of thier low survival rates

if i take out the frog fish would a cleaner shrimp work???

Eels will also likely eat the shrimp or goby depending on which one you get. I purchased 2 neon gobies for my 210 community tank. They were REALLY tiny. My engineer goby ate one and he may have finally got the other one but it disappeared too. In a 1000 gal tank, I doubt you would ever see them again even if they weren't eaten.

I commend you for not wanting a cleaner wrasse. Good choice! Unfortunately, I can't think of a good alternative that would work with your proposed stock :( You might try posting in the Fish Only and Aggressive forum and see if anyone has any ideas/experience for you.
