if 2 are housed in a small tank and not fighting are they a pair? all i see is that they should be housed separately unless a mated pair or they will fight. lfs has 2 in a tank that appear to get along. should i by both?

Personally I wouldn't. The stores tank to a degree is a high stress situation and not really a good way to judge tempermant. Especially when you consider there isn't really any "territory" for them to fight over like a favorite hole in a rock. You would be surprised how much one little fish can claim as his and I tried it in a 75 gallon and thet fought to the death. Try catching one of those with all the live rock and stuff..was no "easy" way to save it..

against your wishes i bought them both. lfs insisted they were a pair and wouldnt split. i know the mgr and got a good price so after watching them interact for quite some time i brought them home. the 2 of them now hang out together on/in my h.o.t. refugiums outlet and do tag team cleaning. its cool. i will post pics soonest
