it probally depends on how well you can take care of them and the tank...my g/f's parents have fish theyve had for almost 3 years since they got the tank. other fish i've heard of being around for 6+ years..so theres a chance they could be around longer then that, just depends on how well you take care of everything really
I have had a neon in my 20 for quite awhile now, cool little fish. Its always active, although I haven't seen it try to clean anyone else. As far as life span, I cant say I'ce actually ever heard anything about that.
have you guys seen how big they get? some of the ones brought into the LFS are at least 1 1/2'' maybe a bit bigger. If you want to ensure a longer life than 3yrs, get a smaller one and take real good care of it. Then after 4 years, let us know if it's still alive and doing well.
