so I purchased a neon green leather a few weeks ago its been in my tank and has been doing well a few days ago I noticed that he has not been opening up as much as he has in the past. I'm wondering if something's wrong or if this is normal I have a picture of before and after.. uploadfromtaptalk1396992280999.jpg

is there something I should be doing my parameters are all perfect and all the other corals are doing great

its not uncommon for corals to take days even weeks to fully acclimate to new tanks but IME i never had a coral not open within 24-48hrs....if all your parameters are in line i would lean toward light being a possible issue...what light source was the leather in when you bought it and what light are you using? leathers are extremely hardy corals

Just to add, it looks like that coral was freshly fragged... you say your parameters are perfect, but do you mind telling what they are? I find that many people say that, but don't realize that something is off, or not being tested.

SG 1.026, Ph 8, calcium 450, nitrates 0, phosphate 0. Kh 7. Temp 80°f ammonia 0 im running 3 t5 10000k 39w and 3 actinic t5 39w I have a refdesk max 65 gallon

Leathers will do this. Did you slowly acclimate it to your lighting? How's the water flow? Sometimes they'll close up for a week or so to slough off their top layer to facilitate growth.

light is good obviously and if all your saying is rue parameter wise theres no reason other then its still getting acclimated...beyond that unless your blasting it with really high flow which im sure your not i wouldnt worry too much not much you can do but keep it low on your sand and wait for it to wake up.

+1

My leathers do this every month. They kind of molt their outer layer to get rid of bacteria, etc, and to make room for new growth. It is probably just fine.

now that you guys mention it I do notice a lot of water pierce the slime coming off of it but not anything white. so it appears to be doing what you're saying thanks guys

Ha ha stupid auto correct.. I noticed it seems to be doing that Newsmyrna80. ...

otherwise the water flow is mild in comparison to the other portions of the tank
