I do not have a hardwire internet connection near my tank so how can I use a spare (DLink) wireless router as a hub?

You need to hardwire it for the initial setup. It doesn't have to be near your aquarium when you do this. After you have finished setup you can easily use a gaming router to connect to your wireless network.

i use to use a netgear gaming router but eventually just moved the original router near the tank and hardwired in.
You can also try going to the Neptune Systems section of RC for answers. When I first got my apex, I found alot of answers there and Russ was very helpful.
