Neptune Breakout Box

What Water on Floor Sensor will work with this? I have the aquacontroller 3 pro, or is it necessary?

How many sensors you recommend?

Yes that will work and if you look at the DIY forums (search it) and you will see a cheap way to build the I/O Breakout box for an AC Pro III. It is very simple and I think the cost is only around 15 to 20 bucks.

I have an Apex, not an AC3, but I have a waterbug connected to a DIY BB. It works well and the BB is very easy to build.

Keep in mind the waterbug requires a separate power supply, but it does not have to be plugged into one of your AC3 outlets.

I'm assuming you can configure 5 sensors to this unit then take one circuit to the break out box? Is it possible to bypass the water bug and wire the sensor straight to the break out box? I need to create 2 zones and trying to avoid buying 2 of these units.

The water bug sensor measures conductance, or impedance, I'm not sure which, and doesn't have a mechanical OPEN or CLOSED switch, so it must be run to the watebug control unit. The control unit provides an OPEN or CLOSED output signal that can trigger the Apex, so no, you cannot run the waterbug senor directly to the Apex or Apex BB.

There is no way to expand the number of discrete inputs from one Apex base module. You have to buy an expansion module if you want more than 6 discrete inputs. However, while I haven't tried wiring multiple switches to one input in parallel, I did consider it as an alarm system for leaving doors open on my stand and I think it would work. If you do wire multiple float or other mechanical switches to one input of the BB or Apex, you would not be able to determine which of the switches activated.
