Neptune Lunar Sim module question

Thanks! I saw that. That's why I posed the question. Thought I'd ask before but it looks like someone is buying it.

I am considering getting it. I don't have it right now.

The main issue with the one you linked to is it is only a 2 LED unit.

For your 180, I would think you would want at least 3 if not more.

As I understand it, you cannot add LEDs. You must buy the number you want to have.

The 5 LED unit is $110 on Marine Depot.

The funny thing is the moon cycle and sun cycle are often out of phase with each other. So there may be days/weeks where you don't see any moonlight as it is on during the daytime.

One thing I have often read is the moon cycle is involved with coral spawning. Having an accurate moon cycle may encourage your corals to spawn.

It would be nice to see corals spawn but I bet it's going to take more than just a moon cycle to do it. Perfect water, perfect temp flucuations, perfect tank.. perfect blah blah...

It would be neat to see the moon phases in my tank however. I already have 6x LED moonlights... I wonder if I can slice and dice to make it work with the Lunar module.

Most of the cost appears to be the module itself.
The LEDs look like they are wired in series, but it is hard to tell.
They are also high power LEDs. You may burn out other LEDs if they are not high power.
The connection to the Lunar Sim Module controller looks just like the Lunar Links connector, I am not sure if it is the same size.

So if you can get a Lunar Sim Control module somewhere, you may be able to just connect the Lunar Links. You may also be able to splice them inline with the existing ones.
However, this is pure speculation on my part.

We have a lunar tracker that also does the lunar cycle and the led's on it are wired in parallel, we picked it up in Nov. at the swap it has 16 led's have played with it some and it is great currently not in use as I have not finalized my lighting scheme on the 58g yet

I'll keep an eye out for a used module. I preordered an Apex (I have no controller of any kind) so I have a few weeks to a month before it arrives.

oldreefer, be interesting how it works once you get it up and going.

I have used it in a ghetto way on a past tank and it was awsome you actually go from a full moon to a very dim moon light following the moon phases on a monthly basis

I have 4 of the LunarTracker LEDs over my 120. It actually works pretty good, just reset it at full moon and it follows pretty close to the moon phase. It seem to get off after a while so I reset it every couple months if I think about it.

The bad thing, if you want to look at it as bad, is like Marinefishguy says, when the simulator is anywhere between the 3rd and first quarters, like the real thing, your moon lights will be very dim to non-existent.

I have an extra LunarTracker controller, and wall wart if somebody wants to play with one. I'd take $30. If I remember right the output is 12VDC and the LEDs are wired parallel. I am using all the LEDs I have, so none would be included.
