Nets, Buckets etc with Ich

Since putting my fish into the HT and now leaving the DT fallow, what do I do with buckets / nets used in catching / moving the fish.

These are probably infected with Ich, is it possible / likely for cysts to be living on them once dry?

If so, should I just get some new buckets / net to use for the HT (and suitably marked) which will 100% guarantee no copper transfer as well and just "fallow" the buckets by using them only with the DT - that way the Ich is at the same point of the life cycle at worst as in the DT and with no host I can put them back into use in 72 days knowing they're Ich free?

Or am I just overthinking this and should stop being tight - and just go buy all new stuff? :)

While I personally use separate sets of equipment with each tank, leaving them "fallow" along with the display tank would work.

Would bleach work in this case Steve? I for one have several 5 gallon buckets I use for regular maintenance related uses on the DT (mine is currently fallow). I was planning on using bleach and then letting them dry out for a week or so. Safe?

Had to chime in here, mainly because I have been reefing for 7 years now. I have kept FOWLR, full on SPS, and even Softie reefs. My question here, and I am not trying to sound like a dumba$$, but what exactly is "fallow"? Now I learn stuff everyday in this hobby, I just personally have not come across this term, or something else was used in it's place. TIA.

It's basically leaving your tank free of any organism that can host ich so that ich will die off.

Solitude hit the nail on the head. In case you were curious, it's a term usually used in farming. You leave a field empty of crops or with a certain crop that refreshes the soil from whatever the last crop took (crop rotation).

As long as the nets and buckets dry completely the ich will die. I don't think you'll have a problem. 1 week should be plenty of time for them to dry out and ich to die. Just make sure it's completely dry.
