Man I've gotta vent and steam.

OK If you go on vacation and live in East Polk, or North Highlands County area let me know and I will watch your tank or have someone you know watch the tank that has some common sense or basic ability to see that something is wrong or just not right.

Yes you guessed it. I let someone watch the tank that I thought had these.

Went on vacation Tuesday-Sunday and when I entered I knew that something wasn't right yes the smell.

My chilller pump messed up and the person I had watching the tank didn't know that something was wrong.

Lets see the HOOVER DAM clues, tank water was like 98, The glass was hot to touch, the fish were dissapearing, the corals were turning a different color, the mushrooms were dissapearing, the crabs were dissapearing, what is that smell? my god what a mess.

Massive water change on Sunday still digging through it taking out stuff that didn't make it and so far I'm up to.

2 green chromis
1 six line wrass
1 flame angel
1 blue hippo
1 yellow watchman
several crabs
1 decorator crab
1 fussy green mushroon
2 ricordia mushrooms a green and a purple
2 sps corals
2 lps corals
several kenya trees

man I'm *&^^ed I guess more at myself but has anyone else experienced this

Is there hope? What did you do?

I'm running carbon and taking out as much dead out as I can.

I did get several bottles of Crown and rum cheap on the cruise tho.

best of luck, just keep pulling out anything that looks iffy...i just lost my whole tank of sps so i feel your pain. all you can do is clean up and start again

im sorry that you had such a bad experience. I've never had that problem but iv lost all my tank inhabitants to ich before. We always have problems when we come home from vacations too.

but i wish you luck and hope that you can save whats left!

Bummer dude. I'm blessed with 2 quality reefers within a mile of the house, adam82 and poknsnok. I've already reef sat for both of them. Poknsnok and I will be gone at the same time next month and adam will keep everything pristine. I'm going to Peru for 2 weeks in July and have absolute confidence in those two guys.
With a club the size and quality of ORCA, you should put together a map/list of experienced folks that can tank sit.
Best of luck with the recovery.

yea i would do at least 30 gallons every couple of days as long as everything looks ok, if things are still dying off and polluting tank i would try and do it every day or two. you don't want to stress out rest of living stuff by letting dying corals pollute tank. best wishes, fortunately there is a wealth of people here for support and help

If its any consolation I'm still giving away tons of kenya tree for free so I'd be happy to replace some for you :)

I went away once and had someone watch my tank. I wrote up an extremely detailed list of what to do with writing that said "if anything looks, sounds, feels funny etc call immediately if you have any doubt in your mind whatsoever"

It was a lot more detailed than that but the person i had watch my tank went through a quick trainer course before i went away to make sure they were able to do these things.

The only thing that happened while I was away was 1 wrasse jumped and was by a cat toy where i found it only later after i got home which... they do that anyway and having a person come by every other day, unlikely they were able to catch it anyhow.. and my utube in my overflow was a little cloggy but was fixed right away when we got back so no big deal.

I also knew what to take care of more for the next time i go out of town when having someone watch.

very good suggestion. and sorry to hear about your loss. i just got done watching gwrenche's tanks and man his write up for the main tanks and the frag tanks and all the other stuff was like 3 pages long. and even know i know his stuff better than i now my own it still took like a 1 hour each day to check feed and recheck and i was still wondering if everything was alright. let me know if you need anything. good luck

Yea its rough.

Tank size is 180 with a 30 or so sump.

I always have like 30 gal of salt water on hand so Im doing the change every three days or so unless its looks worse.
