New 1.5g office project.

One thing with a tank at work, at least where I work, is sometimes they have power outages to work on stuff. That and the temp gets pretty hot/cold outside of normal working hours. Just a thought. I'd love to have a tank at work.
My power doesnt usually go off unless the whole town does so that shouldnt be a problem and my office has a/c at a steady 70 so my plan is to use a nano heater I already have.
Joe, I would like to check out that filter ever since I read your suggestion about running rubble or chaeto its seemed like a great idea to try.I would also be in on ordering a fish and helping cover shipping with you.

On to the build, I just found a 50/50 compact flourescent at petco ill put up my phone pic in a minute. Another thing that caught my eye at petco was a 2.5g aga that may end up working better for what i want to do, its still very small but it gives me a few more options.

Here are a few fish I am thinking about
Yellow Clown Goby (Gobiodon okinawae)
Green Clown Goby (Gobiodon atrangulatus)
Red Spotted Goby (Trimma rubromaculatus)
Court Jester Goby (Amblygobius rainfordi)
I would only be stocking 1 of these fish, They are all so neat its hard to decide.
I am going to keep probably only one astrea snail and no hermit but I will probably put a few tiny brittle stars from my fuge in there.

Dex, I tried a Rainford's goby (Court Jester). He never seemed to do well in my tank. He seemed to eat a bit, but never really settled down. You may have better luck though.

I think passing on the hermits are a good idea. You may be able to do a few snails though. Maybe a nassarius?

You could always ditch the lights totally and go with a non-photosynthetic tank. Sun polyps, sea fan, etc. I can give you 2 liters of phyto if needed. I culture nannochlopsis and am getting some isochrysis in the mail. Mushrooms would probably do fine just being next to the window.

Forgot to mention before. I think Scott (Conesus_Kid) had success with a Rainsford goby. Hopefully he chimes in, but if not PM him for what he has done.

I've contemplated putting my sun coral in there but I fear the worst and would hate to lose it. It's been one of my favorite since I added it two years ago. I would however love to try a black one and eventually throw that baby in my DT. I still want to try and figure out a light, I feel like that 50/50 with two of them would be good for what I want. And I can build something superb to house them in, freeing up the whole back of the tank for the filter. I also got to personally see the red sea deco nano that I linked earlier in the thread and if the one you have won't work I think I got a solution.

Still can't decide about the 2.5 either I think I want to stick with my original plan but having the extra room would be perfect to have a pair of something instead of a loner fishy. And I feel the dimensions on the 2.5 would make for a better scape.

Does any one know of where to get the reflective sheeting like the stuff used for the nice reflectors i think lumenarc or lumen bright i can't remember exactly. I think 2 ft square would do the trick.

Im really not sure but that would probably work. I have some sheet rolls of aluminum here, but one side is painted white and the other isnt very polished. I wonder if I could just run through my grit selection and get er shinin? I have from 80 grit up to like 4 or 5k grit for polishing gelcoat.

The aluminum sheet is a bust it was painted on both sides I tried peeling it off with a heat gun and it was just going to be too labor intensive to justify it.

I think I am going to use it as is and coat it with metal duct tape Im not going to spend 35 on reflective metal. I think with 2 10 watt compact fluorescent about 3 inches from the surface on a tank no deeper than 10 should be more than enough for my plan.
Still toying with the 2.5g cant make my mind up.

Joe, what are the dimensions of that hob filter? is it black or clear? any idea on the model or what its rated for?

can you just text it, I have seen some that are pretty much clear i think it will work better for allowing light into it.
