New 12 Gallon JBJ NanoCube

Ok I will start a new thread for my new 12 gallon nano I bought Sunday. I got a couple questions though. I am going to have lots of live rock in the tank. So would I not use the bioballs and ceramic rings or the charcoal bag? And is the return anough water movement or should I use my baby power head? Will post pics later tonight I hope.

Ok so tonight I got the tank out of the box,

put it together

then added some live sand, live rock and SW.

looking good so far, and I actually had the rock where I wanted it in less then an hour. woohoo.

Gonna test all water tomorrow.

OMG I was just staring at the tank and even thought I checked it over and over , I just found a crack in the glass. :-( whaaaaaaa
Now I gotta break it all down again and return it and set it all up again. There goes my record for setting up my live rock in under an hours :-( I am sooooo sad.

Oh No!.... I guess you are going to be one of the more experienced setup and move your tank members here:(.....sorry to hear that.

Norman

Whooaaa. Double check the crack. Do you have a pic of it? Often in a new tank a stray strand of silicone is mistaken for a crack. You may not have to break it down if that is the case. If it is really a crack, that is a bummer...

I tried several times to get a pic of the crack but I just cant get focused in on it well enough for it to show in the pic. I was hoping the same thing at first that it was a stray strand of silicone but I can feel it fromt he outside of the tank and its not rubbing off. I am going to check it again when I get home from work this afternoon.

Then what your saying is its my karma or bad luck this week??? LOL Only Kidding!!

Ok so Aquatic Critter was going to be really good to me and let me come pickup another tank and take it home to switch it out and then bring the bad one back. but he was just like you all and said those dont usually crack often. Even though I tried scratching that crack with my fingernail and it felt like a crack last night I decided to get someone at home to take something to see if it would come off and it does, soo FALSE ALARM!! :-) NO CRACK!! WOOHOO.,

Hmmm well the nano I have now has one clown that I plan to move over, a couple of Zoas and the Xenia, then I want to sell that tank off. I have a clown that has been in that tank alone for 3 years by previous owner. I have wanted to get another one but have been reluctant because LFS says she will kill another added. Do you think if I add it at the same time I transfer her to the new tank that it will be ok? or will is stress both of them out too much. I would like some type of frogspawn. maybe some more colorful Zoas. I am open to suggestions too :-)

What kind of clown? Maroon?

I would try one....just keep an eye on them. The Critter will probably let you bring it back if they don't match up....Emerald Bay may do that as well, but I haven't bought fish there, so I don't know.

On the maroon....I've heard some of those can be mean as heck, but the one I have is even submissive to my large Blue-Chromi.....go figure.

They have a maroon at Petco in the Avenue, you think I should try it?

also is the return on a 12gallon jbj nanocube deluxe enough current or should I add a small powerhead?

Generally you don't mix clown species...especially in a small tank (and especially the more aggressive species like maroons and clarkiis). You'll hear of some people getting away with odd mixes (usually more docile species in larger tanks), but it is somewhat risky especially when they can't get away from each other.

If you want them to pair up, just get a small cultured clown of the same species. If the size difference is big enough I think squabbling should be minimal. I've paired up 3 different sets that way.

Ok so I never picked up the second clown that day I decided not to. Been really busy as everyone else has too over the holiday but I added a few things to the tank. Thanks to some fellow members who sold me some stuff really cheap at a GREAT buy, I got some purple tipped frogspawn. Its looking really good in the tank.

I have some green zoas from my previous nano I moved over.

I have those zoas that were fragged at the last meeting at AC that are looking great.

I have these zoas that looked all brown in the last tank but when I moved them over here they look wonderful.

I picked up a Scooter Blenny at the Critter, and of course we call him Scooter.
