New 12g Aquapod with TBS "Package"

Hey everyone...starting a thread on my new Aquapod. I'm new to nano-reefing so any advice always appreciated.

I bought the "package" from Tampa Bay Saltwater and picked up the fist shipment today. Wow! was very impress with the rock. Full of life. Came packed in water and ready to go. Here's a few picks.

Here's some picks of the sand and rocks in the tank. The "dust" storm hasn't quite settled down yet. Now keep in mind this is what Richard at Tampa Bay Saltwater calls the "decorator rock". Pretty sweet.

With the 2nd part of the shipment you get the "coral rock" to really dress it up. That's when I'll finish my aquascaping.

I've already spotted several free 'hitchhikers' ... hermit crab, sponges, cup coral, zooanthids (I think), tube worms not to mention the plant life.

More to come.

nice!... im about to start mine tonight! lol 24g. aquapod...what kind of water u use to mix salt?

I used deionized filtered water with oceanic salt mix.

I read some good reviews on their salt over Instant Ocean...good dissolving and less phosphate....we'll see.

wall mart drinking water with the green label is good for top up i use it on all my tanks not a problem and its only 3.50 for 6gallons it is filtered with ro/do/ozone with zero sodium so it is pretty good you gan buy it by the case as well for mixing top up water

i have a 90 with the package.. i love it. had it over a year now and am still finding new creatures everyday.

i would have to get 24g. for tank and few more for every change...

Brita's do a pretty good job, still takes awhile though. There's a company out of Canada that sells RO units on ebay for about a hundred bucks. If you have some basic plumbing skills that's a good way to go.

spyder are you planning on removing some of the plant life or just prune it?

Good question, lol. What do you all think. Is it a bit much or okay for now. I'm new to having all this plant life.

Here's a quick pick now that the water has cleared up.

Look's like my cycle (lol) has started. Ammonia's up to just under 0.5 ppm...Nitrite's climbing too. wooohooo!

did the aquapod comes with carbon???

The pod does come with a bag of carbon, but almost everyone recommends tossing it along with the ceramic rings and bioballs.

lol,i understand bioballs, but why ceramic and carbon? mine didnt have carbon dunno why..but it comes with sponge, bioballs, white bag i guess that ceramics...

I think it looks neat but I would be concerned about it over growing or going sexual. I had some mushroom culerpa in my 10 gallon tank and it went sexual. I pulled it all out and just left some halimeda.

so how does it work you get verious shippments or what. how much do you get and what did it run you? i might order from them if the price is right...

I am planning on ordering a 25 gallon package when I move my 24 gallon nanocube to a 55. THat is why I like these threads. can see what people are getting and how they set it up.
