new 180 build

I am having a new 180 built (acrylic)72x24x24 my question is no one would do the external overflow so I am thinking a 4 inch wide overflow on both side walls, (loosing 8 inches of space) or should I just go corner overflows, or center

also what thickness of acrylic? My current tank is a clarity plus made with 3/8 all around, but it has a lot of deflection. The guy building the tank is saying to use 3/8 sides with 1/2 top and bottom.

Hmm, I'm stumped by the idea that no one would do external overflows. They are not difficult so any decent shop should be able to do them, they are a little more time consuming so adds a little to the cost of the tank but not in any way difficult.

For material thickness, I'd advise no thinner than 1/2". Your current tank is 3/8" and has more deflection than you desire, why get another made the same way? A thicker top does not serve to reduce deflection. The force against the vertical panels are exactly the same whether you yse 3/8" for the top or 2" for the top - so deflection would be similar as well. Personally, I'd rather see your builder use 1/2" for the sides and 3/8" for the top & bottom, or better yet - spend the extra $50 for 1/2" throughout.

If you want the external overflows on back, I'd recommend a thicker material for that panel like 3/4", costs a little more but you get what you want.

no one would warranty this design so I gave up on it

im figuring that you explained what you wanted to the builders, but i did see a flaw in the drawling and just wanted to make shure they were aware that this is what you wanted.. atleast i hope this is what you wanted?

the way you had it in the drawling there was now back wall that extends to the top of the tank...
