lighting is very important for clams. if the clam is extending its mantle very wide its a sign that it not getting enough light. if so you need to move it up closer to the lights. what type of clam is it or what does it look like?

what kind of clam you got? I know croceas have a tendency of "falling down" on the sand, you can try pry it up with some rocks and put a piece of rock underneath until it attaches itself to the rock. Also if your clam is injured during transportaion/capture it might be a serious problem, bet we'll talk about that when you have more updates.

thanx for the quick response, the clam is a purple one thats about 3-4 inches hes still feeding. he is sitting on the bottom in the sand but thats where the store had him when i bought him i should of put him in the QT tank but ive just wanted a clam for so long i got ahead of myself!!! he seems healthy but everytime i put him back up he just falls back over by night and he seems to keep spinning at night is my current to strong for him?

Unless you have metal halide bulbs (the very small, nuclear-bright bulbs, that are ultra hot in temperature) you might not have enough light. I would guess you have PC bulbs (compact flourecent) and I would never keep a clam under tham. Sorry to say it.
