New 220 gallon build

Ok, I am not a video expert but came up with a little 5 minute video. May take awhile to dowload or play which will be determined by your internet speed but it starts out with just some shots of the tank and Dragon Goby which is who causes the dust in the tank when sand sifting...

As stated, I am no video expert and my camera is an old Sony 8mm handycam so quality is not the greatest

But then you see me start to feed and the Elegance coral close up on the food. I took out the audio and replaced it with some popular "Local" music...

Enjoy.

Elegance and other corals Feeding

Changed out one bulb for a 20k, trying to get some more color out of a few corals. Not as much blue as I thought there would be. Since the reflectors are too large to have both the MH and some PC or VHO bulbs it just seems some color is missing.

Yes, Minnie and Mickey love the tank and stop by every day to look in :P

Finally took the 400w MH out of the old hood for the 75 gallon and rigged a setup so it sits over the sump and frag 'shelf' Some of the corals have not seen a real light on them in quite a while :(

Had moved some things around including a favia that was placed higher in the tank. It fell (Snail?) last night and broke a pretty large acropora branch (one of three good sized branches) into pieces, so those pieces are now in the frag tank.

Thanks, they are alright several people get much better shots of their systems but take the time required.

The True Perc's are still hosting in the green BTA never going too far from it, the False Perc's are back to living in the upper left corner but swim around the aquarium all day and ignore the True Perc's and their hosting behavior now.

That was on the 19th. Yesterday (the 23rd) the Ocellaris (False Perc) female was poking her head into the RBTA. The RBTA moved immediately under a very large live rock in a cave area and sticks its head out during the day...closing up into the cave at night. Did not get any photographs as was leaving for my sons hockey practice but she seemed very interested in hosting. First sign of any interest since introducing the Perc's to show them.

Was hoping to have some cabinetry done before taking any more full tank shots, but do need to set up and take a "reference" photo. Need to be able to see growth and have not bothered to do that yet.

Well, no full tank shot but I did pick up a few Acro's from RandyO from a shipment he received this past week...some really nice pieces and also aquired a few Zoa's recently.

This zoa came from saltwater paradise

Acans are doing well, you can see several baby polyps on them.

This one is a pretty heavy crop to make the baby heads larger in photo

The reason I had brought out the camera was to get a shot of this false perc and the growth that has been getting larger and larger on his chin. This is about 2 months worth of growth, trying to find out what it is HERE

Thanks, its coming along.

Was going to try and treat the false perc, but had gone away for the weekend....the day I returned the growth was gone.

It was possibly a viral infection as pointed too in a thread on the subject in fish disease forum...I just hope it does not return.

Kurt,
This thread is fantastic. I read it through this morning.
I am woking on a plan to upgrade from a 55 to a 180 soon.

I have a burning question. Outside of the livestock and the AquaIII, can you give me an estimate of how much $$$ you have into your setup? I know that is alot to ask, but I want to make sure I have enough $$$ set aside to start the upgrade. I would hate to get 2/3 the way through and run out of available $$$.

Mine would not be integrated into a wall such as your though. It would be a stand alone. I think I would use my current 55 for the sump/fuge setup.

Thanks if you have the time to estimate it.

Wow. Adding it up could **** me off....definately the wife.

Lets see,

800 for tank
400 for fittings/PVC (Approx)
650 for skimmer
700 in lighting
250 in extra bulbs
200 for UV unit
70. for two phosban reactors
150 for various pumps
250 for return pump
200 for in line pump
120 for tank drilling
80. in lumber for stand
220 in lumber to finish tank (so far)
230 for fan in cellar
600 for live rock
Salt mix for 500g + water changes..

Then there were things from the 75 gal such as the tank used for refugium, lighting etc.

Thats off the top of my head.

The look on your wife's face when you tell her how much.....Priceless!

What is the difference between a return pump and an inline pump?

What is the difference between running ozone and an UV unit?

What is the difference between a fresh water tank and a salt water tank? (haha)
