New 29 gallon zoa tank

Here is my 29 gallon zoa tank with a very few other things for kicks. It looks pretty bare right now but there is 60 tiny frags ranging from 2 polyps to mini colonies glued all over the rock structure. I also have a 10 gallon full of my nicer zoa aqusitions in a frag/QT tank waiting on nudi erradication. The zoas are more fun than the big tank in there own way!

A down shot of a few...

Right side....

The right side rock had a rock anemone on it and I think its pretty cool as long as it doesn't decide to move from its crevise. Notice the little bi-color blenny in his home to the right? He is so cute and when the rock covers with zoas his home will be decorated!

A little colony of Evilmel green skirt zoas in the right of the pic that will never be allowed to touch the rock structure. They grow very fast and would cover the reef up before any other color had a chance but they are awsome looking zoas.

And a pic of all 4 fish who call this tank home...

Some blues...

My camera is a kodak easy share point and shoot so the colors are all off a little but you get the idea.

Some specs...
Tank is a 29 gallon with a HOB filter and 1 power head for flow.
A single 175 XM metal halide which I think is way to blue. I will swap it with a 14K XM and add some duel 65 watt actinics I have in from frag tank soon.
It has all zoas and 1 rock anemone 2 orange rics a tiny isolated frag of yellow star polyps and neon center brown star polyps. 1 table top acro frag and a green milli frag for some highth and 2 isolated mushrooms for color. Hmm, kinda sounds more like a mixed mini reef now that I think about it  I didn't let anything invasive touch the rocks so the zoas could have full access to the space. I know some will out grow others but I will deal with that when the time comes.

None of my zoas came off line. All came from local reefers in my club and a few from a local store. They are not super fancy ones or very expensive varieties but I think when they grow in it will be a nice looking tank. I have some of my favorites still in QT so when they make it to the display I will put up more pics.

If anyone was interested in looking at my 270 thread here is the link. Its a pretty long read with a lot of talk from my local club but I am happy with the end result of the tank.http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=898758

what kind of powerhead are you using? And is that a huge piece of texas holey rock on the left?

Steve

I am going to try a MJ 1200 to try and bounce off a wall but will keep the MJ 600 if its to much flow. I had not put it in when the pic was shot till everything was glued down. And yes that is a huge peice of texas holey rock. It should be fine in a reef I would think. I hope so anyways ;). I had it from a FW tank so that was cheaper than buying more live rock to fill the tank. It weighed 24 lbs!!

Chris, Can't wait to see yours in a few months. I have some starts for you BTW. Do recognize any of those zoas ;)

Yes I thought I recognized a few:)

Thanks Angela.

Chris

Thanks guys! Its funny I put this over in the zoa forum and only you MTRC guys commented on it so far

It still looks very bare to have so many frags but in 6 months time it should look more like a zoa tank I hope! I had to start a 29 because I can't get in the big tank to tinker with the zoas like I like to. In other words always cutting them up to trade!

Nice setup Angela... Good to see you dedicate a tank to zoas... :) What happened to those PE's I was wanting??? Or are they in your 270??? Anyways, keep us posted on your growth... I'm in the process of breaking down one tank and setting up two more... That and I'm entertaining my grandparents from FL for the holiday, so I'm busy to say the least... I'll be posting more when I get over the hump... But again, looking good...

That is one sweet collection you have!:D
I really like the rock in there too.
Is that a Bi-colored Blenny? Watch the fish with your Acroporas! The fish will nip at them and make them recede.:(

Thanks for the heads up! The bicolor came from a tank with the mother colony of milli and a ton of zoas and never touched anything so I snatched him up when the guy sold out. Gotta love sell outs where the fish has been tested at someone elses tanks risk. Thanks for the nice comments! I will for sure put up pics as things grow in.

That's a relief!
Just keep an eye on the little bugger, their appetite has been known to change for no reason whatsoever.
Cheers and happy thanksgiving!:)

That tank will look sweet once the zoas grow in and spread. I'm a sucker for zoas and would like to set up a similar tank . . . I'm jealous. Good luck with it, thanks for sharing the pictures.
