new 30 gallon cube question

My cycle is almost completed. I haven't check nitrates tonight but this am they had lowered into the pink zone.

The poly filter is brown and gupey looking. If I rinse it in fresh new saltwater is that going to create a new cycle? Can I do that and have it still be effective? Or what if I replace it now?

Do you have any live rock, sandbed? I believe a poly filter can be regenerated when it turns completely brown/black by washing it in RO/DI water. What level are your nitrates, what number corresponds with the pink zone?

Well, I had put a small piece of the filter into the tank yesterday so that I wouldn't do too much damage taking out the polyfilter if that was the case. At any rate I replaced the polyfilter with a new piece.

The test I was doing was the nitrite test, faster, but not the nitrate test, sorry. My nitrates are reading at about 6 parts/ml. I guess the nitrites kind of do reflect where my nitrates are at for now. Still a bit to go, right?
