New 300 gallon tank project

Here is our (new to us) 210g Quarantine and Holding Tank  This should allow us to quarantine just about any fish we want prior to adding it to the main system without worrying about stressing them in too small of a tank.

A HUGE thanks goes out to Jorge, Chris, his brother, and my friend Kerri for helping yesterday in some crappy weather. I couldn't have done without them. We had it in the house by noon, and this pic was taken this morning.

For those of you that are familiar with my basement / fish room. We put this to the left of the refugium and frag tank, in the corner next to the RO storage tank.

Edit After: Once I posted this, I looked at it and realized just how crazy I am. Our QT is now larger than many peoples display. I need to get my head examined. :fun4:

Landen mother earth just called she wants her ocean back.lol

Whatever makes you happy brother. I like it, I like it a lot.

Did a quick calculation and Melanie and I now have somewhere around 675g of SW and 125g of FW (RODI) in the house now.

At least only the 300 display is on the first floor, everything else is firmly sitting on the concrete slab of the basement/fishroom

Just a teaser, but after seeing Jorge's MP40W's in action on Saturday, I pulled the trigger on a couple of them today.

When I get back from a couple of trips in the next two weeks, there will be a head to head match between my 6105's and the MP40's... If you have any special requests for comparison purposes, let me know.

Whichever one's I like best will be kept and the others sold off, so either way there will be some fairly new pumps available to a lucky person soon.

hey i love the tank i met jorge a coule of weeks ago i bought some lights an things from him great guy. he was telling me about the 210 that was a great deal wish i could have found it. i wouldnt mind checking that that 300 out in person jorges tank just puts me in a trance. im sure yours would to in person.keep up the good work it looks awsome my hats off to you

Well the Vortech vs. Tunze challenge has been called off... Due to some very questionable behavior and advertising from a sponsor on here, I had to cancel the order and am still waiting for my refund.

I won't name any names, but essentially I was sold two MP40's, advised they were in stock, and then told two weeks later that they still hadn't shipped and would be drop shipped from Ecotech, but they wouldn't provide me a timeframe. A simple call to Ecotech got me in touch with their president and I was advised to cancel my order, and no further shipments were being released to this vendor, because there were outstanding billing issues...

Oh, well. I guess I am going to stick with the 6105's for the time being.

It looks like you are using the Marineland stand and canopy. I also see that you are using lumenmax elite reflectors. How far above the water surface does that put the bulbs? I am looking into the same setup when we move and it would be great to just buy the tank/stand/canopy "ready to go".

Don't think so, but I have been wrong before...

Don't think that it is a Marineland stand and canopy, custom built by Fish World in Richmond Va from what I remember.

Going back and looking at it again, I think you might be right. If this is the case, I guess I will be back to making my own again.

This was a custom stand and canopy, there are a few builds on RC that have used the Marineland stand and canopy, not many though. The canopy is very short for MH mounting, and the stand is typical factory build quality.

I have seen them in person and the quality and functionality didn't impress..

Thanks for the reply Landen. I spoke with a Marineland rep in person pretty extensively and he said that they would do pretty much anything I would want or need. That included making the stand and canopy as tall as I wanted it. I know that one can make a better/more functional stand, but having them make the stand allows me to have a great tank warranty.

Right now, I am thinking about either a "standard" 300 DD with external coastal overflow, or a 8' version with a external coastal overflow. I asked them about it and they would have no problem building it the way I want it. Really great to know.

Your tank build looks fantastic and hopefully I can get mine ordered if we buy the house we are currently looking at.

Thanks Kenneth.

Rich, keep in mind, the stand can only be as tall as your widest doorway unless it is modular. Since the tank is 36" wide, the stand has to be turned on its side to go through doorways which makes the height the limiting factor.

Awesome build! Time for an update traveling man. I just read it through!

Do you have your QT plumbed into your main system and when you get fish to QT just close a ball valve? That would be great for the extra water and easy as pie to just turn a ball valve off.
