New 300dd build

After 5 years out of the hobby due to a tank crash while out of town my brother and I have decided to jump back in. We are setting up a 300dd with factory stand and canopy in our office. Tank is currently cycling.

Some new equipment and some being used from our last tank.

Current setup:
3 Radion XR30w Pro's
2 mo40wqd
Eshopps rs300 sump
Vectra L1 return
Vectra 180 skimmer
300lbs various live rock

Contemplating supplementing the Radions with two 48in 2 bulb t5 fixtures we already had.

Still contemplating how we will stick it but most likely planning a mixed reef.

Welcome all comments, suggestions, etc.

Having reread that post I see various typos. Sorry bought that, typed it on my phone. Don't seem to be able to go back and edit it.
It's a vertex 180 skimmer which we already had and will be upgrading as stocking begins.

do you think the three radions arent enough coverage or do you just have extra lights? did you put the wide angle TIR on them? Are then the new gen 3s?

I have a similar tank and am going to switch to radions from Kessils but I dont see many builds of this size with the new gen 3s for feedback. I know the originals peopel would put 6 this size. Chad at BRS told me that he always uses the wide angle TIR lenses on any tank less than 30 inches because theyre so bright.

From what I have read 3 may not be enough. However the tank is still cycling so haven't done much with them other than play with the features. I do have the wide angle TIR but I haven't installed them. Frankly they look like a lot of light when turned up. They are the new gen 3's. I look forward to working with them and seeing how well they perform. I also am interested in feed back from others regarding this issue.

My tank is in my office as well. Something I found to be a valuable asset. Neptune Apex System. And for power back up I have a 1000 Watt inverter hooked up to two deep cycle batteries. I have a Neptune 8 energy bar plugged into the inverter. It backs up my Return pump, 2 300W heaters, 2x power heads, and my Neptune system. I get 4.5 hours of back up out of it. My network in my office has its own back up, so 75% chance I wont loose internet connection to the tank.

I was actually wondering how the apex would work during a power outage. More specifically, is there a default state where if fusion doesnt detect the main unit that it emails you that the system lost power? If I lose power, even if i have a generator, I wont have internet access.

Not sure, my internet is on a UPS, as our internet provider does not go down we will be all set. I have 1hr of UPS run time and 4 on DC battery. So my trusted notification will be my UPS notifying that power is out.

Couple questions. What are your thoughts on two heaters one in each cornerflo? Also, I have the marine land stand so space is slightly limited. What skimmer? I was thinking the reef octopus 200 int Elite. I would like to go to the 220 but don't think it would fit in my sump (eshopps rs300 gen 3)

I've never had corner overflows so i cant offer advice on placement but imo 2 heaters is the way to go just in case theres a failure you should have a little more time to catch it before catastrophe. I am running the reef octopus 200 on my system and i love it, its quiet was easy to tune and removes skimmate like crazy. Good luck with the build, its looking great so far.

Making a lot of progress. Got float valves in place for protein skimmer, return, and auto top off. Hooked up new apex gold and learning to use it. Added the t5 supplements. All traces of ammonia, nitrites are gone and nitrates are nearly zero.

Waiting on leak sensor module for apex. Going to add one sensor in sump and one in salt mixing room. If sump sensor trips going to have apex turn off skimmer, return, and also a normally open solenoid at point 1/4in tubing for rodi attaches to the source. If salt mixing room sensor trips will have it just turn of rodi solenoid.

Also got water change system up and running. It works incredibly well. One mag 12 in sump hooked to drain. Another mag 12 in 44 gallon brute in mixing room going to sump. Both switched from inside stand. Simply turn off return. Empty sump. Then fill with fresh mixed salt water and turn return back on.

Still trying to decide on skimmer. The stand is only 25.5 inches tall inside. Was looking at reef octopus elite sss 220 but appears it would be too tight. I think we have narrowed it to an aquamaxx q5 or Nyos quantum 220. These seem like they would fit.

Phosban 550 reactor has been up and running for a month or so. Deluxe BRS Carbon reactor for couple weeks. Seem to have made great progress on the GHA.

The aqua medic 5000 kalk reactor paired to a Tunze osmolator is great. I'm using the optional solenoid vs reservoir and pump. Very pleased with this.

Have decided to keep the 3 radion g3's and supplement with an Ati 6bulb 60 in t'5 in front of them.

Had been using 4 48in t5's and really liked it but lost 2 ballast so just decided to upgrade to the Ati.

Also very pleased with the Nyos 220 skimmer.
