New 30g setup w lots of pics

Sorry, been gone for awhile...

The issue with me and my hair algae is that I am getting frstrated with what's feeding it... So the answer would be Yes... since a fresh system, I could let it starve the way scooter did.... very little bio load, large tank. I would use rock from my 75. I declined giveing you contaminated sand because I didn't want to wish the same pains on you... you can have it if you want to deal with the same problems... Then we'd be in the same boat, out at sea... A drift. Alone. Together.

Alright you got me there, but hair algae is weaker and would die in a new tank transfer, but my apitasia, they've been known to live through cooking rock, a new tank transfer would just give them more space.

YEP!! 200 gal tank, 36 gal fuge, 40 gal sump, good skimmer, ozone, and (at that time) ONE fish!

Makes ridding hair algae a bit easier. I know my day will return though :( As much as I want to see this stocked, at least I can tell myself "But, NO algae, NO nitrates". Hey, have to find some enjoyment from it somewhere.

But, am up to four fish now!! And, my free anemone I got by accident is as big as the one in Mike's tank (mine's a sebae, that I would have never ordered. I THINK Mike's was an LTA? Again, I didn't ask). And an RBTA from the order Kass and I split and we thought for sure was 20 tentacles in the grave.

Oh, and my bulldozer. He loves algae, so I'm sure he helped, even though he only destroys things since.

Jason I wouldnt consider the sand contaminated. You must have nutrients/detritis or something in there feeding the algae.
Did you use old sand with alot of detritis in it? If so start siphening it when you do water changes.
If Bri wanted some of your sand I'd just rinse it good in saltwater and it should be fine.

Bri I'll have to let you know. Kid starts school this week and not sure what shift hubby is on (he never tells me lol).
Michelle and I need to trade some frags to sometime so maybe we could do that at the same time.
I did show you kinda how to do it. Ive used to use a scissors to grind the rock under the shrooms or zoa's also but it is'nt as easy.
So maybe you know how to tackle it now.

Actually Kass, we took care of what I needed done at the meeting, and yes now I could do it down the road on my own, I have a wire cutters that is similar to your bone cutters and im sure It will do just fine If I need to cut some rock. Though I never thought of cutting the rock below the frag, I was thinking we would have to cut the frag itself, but your way is much less invasive. Thankx

Well I ended up getting some rock from Limpit and 2003Mikem, Thankx again guys!

And here is my reefscaping, the left side is done, and the right side will get a couple more pieces as I find some that I like the look of.

Then Im gonna cover up the whole thing with corals untill I can't see my rock any more

Looking good so far!

LMAO Scooter at your theme.

Mine was always pile them on the back so they don't fall.
Then avalanches with alot of swearing and finally give up and let them lay where they land.
I always wanted 2 piles in my 150 but it did'nt happen lol.

The GSP in the center will be a bit lower, like a carpet in the valley, and the right side may grow a bit yet.

Yes Mike that is the dinasaur rock in front, now in back, and it looks so pink cause its some of the only coraline in the tank, so it sticks out. I like them alot thankx

Keep the comments coming, any suggestions?

Thats my overflow, its like a calif style without the box on the outside, its actually not that loud either, but I only have about 200gph going through it, if it was more it would get alot louder.

I was going to use two bulkhead strainers, but this had more surface skimming abilities.

And I may box it in down the road, well see.

I was just going to comment on the overflow as well. Very unique...I'd almost be tempted to do the same if it wasn't an RR tank already. Should be perfect for surface skimming.
