I have a 35 gallon hexagon shaped, I aquired it from a friend. It has a 100 watt heater, a red sea prizm skimmer/filter, a basic PC light, and a maxi-jet 1200. I have about 30 lbs of live rock and am going to add more. I have had it running for about a month and all i have put in it is a couple of snails. This isnt my first tank, but it is my first without a sump, so mainly I am concerned with my prizm skimmer.. if this isnt a good start, what can i do without breaking the bank to get this thing right? Any suggestions is much appreciated. I plan on just putting a couple of fish like clowns and maybe a dwarf angel... thanks

AquaC Remora if you want a good hang on skimmer. You'll be fine with a small tank. Do your monthly water change and use a good enough skimmer with a lower bioload. You said you were going to keep horses in there right? I don't know their bioload but I can't imagine it being very high.

Main things to look for in that size tank since there is no sump are -

skimmer
monthly water change
proper circulation

I have no sump and change water probably bi-monthly. But I got no algae! I do the other two things pretty good though I believe.

Might sound like a somewhat wild idea but I'd hook that CSS 220 to it for now. It can be run in sump or external if I remember correctly. Resale value on them isn't real good. I lost plenty of money on mine.

You'll probably get some Aqua C Remora responses but if you don't want to break the bank and it's not too obtrusive, use the CSS. However, if you can trade your CSS for a Remora or get the same money out of it, do that.

 the css is extremely obtrusive though. You can get a used remora for $100. I'm sure you can sell the css for close to that.

Obtrusive. It's not bigger than hooking kitchen counter to your tank.

Just saying, until you can get rid of your css might as well run it. Post in the trading forum.

i totally understand what you're saying. Might as well make use of it while you have it until you can get the remora or something else. The CSS is just massive when you use that bubble trap.

well heres the problem, I hooked it up just for the hell of it the other day and it put like a million bubbles in the water. it came with a microbubble desolver thing (foam filter in a hang-on plastic thing, but then the microbubbles in the skimmer werent really doing much. so I dont know. any suggestions. oh and I plan on doing a couple of clowns now and a dwarf angel. seahorses are kinda out of the question now, hah.. thanks guys
