New 55 gallon tank

So, I currently have a 29 gallon tank, been set up for about a year and a half. we also have a 55 gallon freshwater that is currently unoccupied (9 year old goldfish just died). So my question is can I convert that 55 gallon to salt water easily? and also...

How will I add more rock/sand?
Do I keep My 29 set up, cycle the 55 and then transfer stuff over, or do I Put salt water in the 55, let it sit for a couple days, then move my 29 stuff over (including fish and coral) and add to the live rock and sand slowly?

I am on a money budjet, so it would be best to add stuff slowly.

I want to do this sooner rather than later as some of my inverts (i.e a blue linckea that I didn't research before I bought) need more live rock.

Thanks

just give the 55 a good cleaning. i was in the process of setting up my 55 for a freshwater and at the last second i drained it, cleaned it and set it up for saltwater. the best thing to do is to by pool sand and seed it with your old tank sand. thats just my .02 i havent been in the hobby very long.

I have the same tanks as you. I set up my 55 first, I added the sand and the rock before any fish and let it cycle, now I in the process of moving everything from my 29 to the 55 slowly.
