New 5D is out

DPReview has the hands-on preview of the 5D II on their site. I'm pretty happy with the feature set although it lacks the all important direct photo print button.
 
I was skeptical about the 50D but it's looking like a very nice upgrade from the 40D... I'd expect the same thing with 5D2. I wonder where this leaves the 1D though??? 5D2 sounds as good if not better in most respects.... and for $5000 less!

IMO they should have left off the video and bumped the fps up to 5 or more. Video could have gone into the 50D which would probably fit the price point of most users looking for video in a DSLR. But I would be happy to own either of those cameras :D
 
fps is fine on the new one. The 5D has never been marketed as a sports camera. I could care less about video but I like the MP size, 14 A/D and DiGiC 4
 
I'm stuck with 40d for awhile. It's fine though, the extra fps help with young kids so it suits my need. :)
 
That's my logic right now as long as I can take pictures I'm happy with I'm taking a pass on this go around of releases.
 
Video is added for photo journalist types that can get a quick video shot or interview while on location.

Problem with the video on this camera is that because it's a cmos chip and Canon doesn't do motion video with cmos, it has motion artifacts. Once the camera moved a good pace, the image falls apart, especially when viewing HD.

Other than that, the camera looks sweet!!!

I'm all over this one. I've been waiting for the 5D replacement for too long now. My 20D, while still decent, is reaching the end of its useful life as a primary camera and will be switched to a backup role. Also, my 17-40 has been itching to do some real wide angle photography so i can't wait. Also, you must be kidding about the direct photo print button, right? :)
 
The DPP button is a long standing point of contention in Canon forums. :lol:

Having a button there would be fine if it did something useful. I do like the AF On button on the right side. I use that feature on my 5D but it's a custom function that I have to set.
 
Yeah, i agree. I wouldn't mind the DPP button if you could use a custom function and have it do something else instead.
 
I'll be anxious to see some real world high ISO shots. If they look anywhere near as good as the early examples I've seen then this will likely take over the 30D's place as my primary camera.

Judging from what I've seen of the 50D and now 5D2 high ISO, I think you just bought yourself a 5D2. DIGIC4 is the kind!
 
The current 5D is no slouch at high ISO so it can only get better. I don't hesitate going to 1600 and will even go to 3200 if necessary. While there is some noise, for web use or printing smaller than 13 x 19 it's just fine. That's with the 3 year old DiGiC2.
 
I agree Doug, I've been very close to buying the current 5D given how impressive its performance is and I think this newer version is going to push me over the edge. That said, I'll probably wait to see what the feedback is from the early adopters before buying one, the 1D MK IIIN focus issues make me hesitant to be an early adopter.

On paper it looks like the 5D2 will be as good as any 1D and for much less coin. You've gotta think that 1D4 is going to be ridiculously amazingly amazing (it has to be, right?). So if it's in your budget... better start buying her designer purses!
