New 6095 is loud

Hi
I've just got two brand new Tunze 6095.
I have put them in my tank, filled with tap water, and they made a lot of noise.
I thought it was my new stand, because it was made out of tree, so I changed over to my old, with aluminum legs and nothing else, and they are still loud.

When I take the pump itself out of the clam, it's ok quiet. So it's some kind of vibration going into the glass of the tank, that is making them really loud. So loud I can't have them running, if it's not getting better.

Is there anything I can do, to make them more quiet? Everyone I know, have talked to and read about, was saying these pumps was close to dead quiet - and I hope mine someday will too
 
Make sure the pump has no direct contact with the glass, it sounds like the vibration is transferring to the glass, maybe the clamp is not assembled correctly and it is directly in contact with the magnet, it can also be the cord vibrating against a surface or the side wall of the tank if the pump is in a corner and touching a wall directly.

You're right, it's vibration there is transferred to the glass. I can feel it, when I put my hand around the pump.

But I can't see, how the clamp could be in contact with the magnet? It came pre assembled, and I have tried taking in apart and together again.
The magnet on the inside, put in the 4 rubber things, put the clamp on and the pump in the clamp - or is there anything else?

The noise is there no matter if the cord touches the tank itself or not, there is no difference.

Do you have other ideas, what might help?
 
Try moving it away from a corner and also try giving it some time, the noise will reduce as will the vibration after a couple weeks, my main thinking was the rubber pieces are too far inserted but it sounds like you checked that. Is it possible the magnet holder has a bulge and makes direct contact with the glass? Only the rubber ring on the magnet should touch the glass.
 
I think only the rubber is touching the glass.
I have tried different things, and I managed somehow, to get the vibrations down. It's still there, and still to loud, but it's better.
There is a clicking sound, like something is loose, that's there when the pump is near the glass. Both with and without the clamp on.
The sound is there when the pump is touching the class, or are close without touching, but when the pump is moved away from the glass, the sound disappears.

I have tried to get it on video. As you can see, the pump and clamp is not touching the sides, but when getting close vibration, noise and clicking starts?

The thing about giving the pump some weeks is, if there is something wrong, I can't keep the tank running, as this is my only pumps.
So it will cost a lot in salt to start the tank now, and in a couple of weeks, if it's not getting better, shutting it down and start again.

Again, it's not touching the glass, but when getting close the noise start :-(
 
From the video it looks like the glass is fairly thin, it could be the magnet holder is too strong for the glass, try a pad of about 1/8" thick (3mm) between the outside magnet and glass. For a test even cardboard would be OK.
 
I think my glass are 7-8mm?
I have tried some cardboard, still the same rattling sound as on the video.

Don't you think it's strange, that the noise and rattling start even before the pump touch the glass?
 
Yes, that is the reason I think the magnet is too strong for the glass thickness, the magnet field of the holder is pulling on the propeller magnet. How thick is the glass? That magnet holder is good to 15mm.
 
My glass is 8mm thick.
Is that ok? I have tried to put some cardboard in, it's still the same.

It's driving me crazy, the noise from this pumps is the only thing stopping me for starting up my aquarium again - it's hard to wait :b
 
I would try a scrap of acrylic that is 4-6mm thick. I think if you get close to 12mm, the noise will go away.

I really hope I can get them to work proberly and quiet. The flow they create are amazing! But with the noise they make now, I can't get the tank wife approved :-(

I would think, that there are others with the same glass thickness as me, but I have never heard of anything like this before? That the glass vibrate and so on?

Oh, and another question. Is it ok the pump itself touches the blue rubber things, that are going through the clam?
 
Yes, the silicon buffers against the pump should not be a problem. In general these are for tanks of 300 liters plus, the US sizes 75-120 are what we usually see them on here and tanks this size typically have 1/2" glass which is about 13 mm.
 
I just added a 6095 to my tank which has 1/2 glass. It is dead silent and I am really impressed with the flow.
I hope yours work out and that it is only the glass thickness.
 
I have tried to put in cardboard, it didn't help.
I tried the same as in the video, without the magnet on the other side, and it sound the same.

I still have vibration and noise in my glass :-(
 
I would contact the factory in Germany, they might have a better answer and can help with exchange as needed. It could be simply the cardboard is not dense enough. The video seems clear that the magnet field of the magnet holder is affecting the motor/impeller.
