New 6305's noise

Hi. Just bought a couple of 6305's and a 7096. Really like the flow and the controller, amazing stuff!

The issue is I'm getting a lot of noise when i use the wave making mode. It seems the impeller jumps in and out causing a loud knocking sound. I was wondering if there is a modification that you can recommend to fix this?

I was thinking of adding a nylon washer in front of the propeller to fill the gap that allows the impeller to travel up and down the shaft. This washer would hold the impeller all the way inside. (I hope Im clear enough)Do you figure this is ok?

Also Im finding the pump is rather noisy. I realize its recommended that they will get more silent with time, just wondering in how long you figure ill be able to note a difference?

Yes, I spoke to Mr. Tunze about this on Friday, he said that the 6105, 6205 and 6305 are not really designed for rapid on and off, there is a fix but it will require a mod and some upkeep every couple months. The fix is essentially as you describe. You will place a second disk under the drive unit, possibly even a third and one on top of the drive unit to keep it from moving forward. Overtime the front disk will move forward and need to be adjusted back. In the future we will have a wave generating specific version with a modified drive unit. Besides the clicking noise being annoying, it will not result in any damage to the pump.

About 6 months ago I had one of my 6305's replaced on waranty when the pump stopped working. Now my second 6305 has stopped working also. Its still under waranty and should be getting the new one soon.

My concern is, Ive paid a dear price for these pumps with hopes of buying into a product line that is durrable and simply the best on the market. My expectations for this product are that tunze will surpass any need for the use of waranty which isnt my experience to date. I have zero lime deposit and do regular cleaning on these pumps.

I have running in the same tank, a seio 1100 gph pump that has been running for about 6 years without issue, and might I add that this pump is neglected, I never clean it, and it still runs fine.

Im worried that there may be a problem with my controller (7096) ? Are there any comebacks with these controllers?

In any case do you think its fair to expect these pumps to last at least as long as my seio?

Im worried because 6 months from now my warranty will be over and at that point ill have to buy replacement parts and that doesnt quite live up to the expectations I had when buying Tunze pumps.

My pumps were very noisy from the start as stated in my original post, might I have had a deffective batch?

Please help me.
 
Unfortunately, a Seio 1100 is a standard synchronous pump and as such is very basic and very little can go wrong. The Tunze 6305 is far more complex with speed controls, DC power and much more that can break. As a result I think in much the same way a well built calculator will outlive the majority of computers simply owing to fewer parts and complexities the Tunze 6305 will likely not last as long, our target life is 5 years and it may last longer, it may not last as long as we target. Most of the higher price is for features like speed control and not related to life span. The only good news I can give you on that front is they can be repaired in most cases for far less than a new pump.

On the immediate problem, I see no logical way the 7096 could cause the problem. It sounds as though you got very early 6305's, the 6305 and all Stream 2's have had substantial upgrades between then and about 08/10, from new copper coil design with thicker gauge wire and double insulation layers to a better circuit board and better quality control checks. About every couple months between the release and that time some upgrade was implemented and they have definitely gotten much more reliable and the number of repairs we see has dropped dramatically.
