New 75 Gallon pic

Flow rates should be atleast 20 times turnover an hour, you should shoot for 30 to 40 to make sure you dont get any dead spots.

really that high? I have a Mag 7 right now.... do i need more flow? (guy at LFS said this should be fine...) if so what would be a discreet way to add it?

(posting more pics of the updated rockwork today)

A MAG 7 is fine for a return pump and depending on what your doing with it that will give your enough flow to start with. However as you want to add fish and corals you'll need more flow. There are "TONS" of options out there. Do a bit of reading on powerheads, sea swirls, and closed loops.

If your not up for a bunch of plumbing consider putting in something like a SEIO powerhead for added flow.

If you don't want pumps in the tank check out www.melevsreef.com for a good example of how to make a closed loop.

thanks for the info, its a good thing i like reading about fish stuff cause i do it a lot! one day i hope that I can be answering posts with help, (as opposed to asking the simple questions)

this place has such a wealth of info and is great! thanks to everybody!

don't mean to change the subject...i got a mag 7 on my 75 gal for the return pump and was wondering if your drain is as loud as mine...

mag 7 noise

mag 7 noise

mine was loud, where it dropped into the sump, even though i had a durso.... air appeared to be getting pulled down through the tube...and then would gurgle at the bottom...(possibly because it wasnt a straight drop, rather curved to the intake..) i couldnt find a solution here so i rigged up something (trial and error) that is pretty simple and inexpensive... i will post pics later of that to

How you guys like this?...

I am MUCH Happier with this setup, it seems to promote more flow and give the tank more depth

ya i think i am going to go get a powerjet today...(everytime i have a day off i buy something for that tank...)

Hi my name is R_James and I am an addict.............

Much better! Your arch now fits into the rock and not standing on it's own. You also don't feel like it's about to tip over. My only comment is on the lefthand side on the top is a big rock that seems out of place.. However with your arrangement I see no other place to put it.. It's almost like you have "too much" rock. You might try taking out that large peice on the left to your sump. If you like the look later you can replace where the rock was with a nice large coral.

Great job by the way, and I see your overflow much less now.

I like the new 3d arch on the right side :)
Depending on what you are putting in the tank it might make sense to 'lay' a couple of the rocks you are using as a "wall" flat on the substrate to give a better "tiered" approach. The high/low mountings for corals seem to one extreme or the other with little in between. (for example the rock on the right wall behind your magnet, lay it down flat on the floor)
This wont matter much at first but I made the same mistake at one time and ran out of ceiling room for corals that could not set on the substrate. This is looking much better however... You can come do mine when you get this completed :)

here is that big ol rock, that you guys wanted to move...well it is big here is a shot of it.... from the side

its the greyish one...should i break it? It doesnt really bug me, but i dont wanna run into problems later on down the road..

Funny how guy at LFS said i would need 150-175lbs of LR:eek: ...(i have 108 in there right now)

btw now you probably see the two clowns i have in there, my water param's are fine (short cycle though.. only like 2.5-3 weeks)and I am just holding onto them for a friend who is adding like 50lbs of LR to his 90gal...(he saw mine and was like...dude 30lbs is not enough for my tank)

I got it, we should all pitch in and by a good webcam, everyone gets to pass it around as they do their live rock and get real time feedback. Sort of like having 100 Wives tell us where they want the furniture woohoo! Aquascape is looking really good btw :)

You will have a real problem getting another 50# of rock in there for sure. The stuff you have looks pretty porous and I see some bleached coral skeleton (the elegance skeleton looks pretty new) so you may not need a bunch more. So pony up the full tank shot for us :)

ok here is the end result, think i am going to leave the chunky rock on the left where it is. :D

going to get powerjet now. and ordering the skimmer tonight...its like christmas for me everyday...although i havent checked the mail for that dreaded credit card bill... :(
