New 75G Aggressive fish tank - Help Stock my tank!

Hi there,

So I am getting back into the scene after 2 years off.

Have a 40 gallon community tank running for almost 2 months now and just began stocking that in the last week.

My wife likes all the fish that you can't keep in a tank with inverts, so I happily volunteered to setup a second tank So, we went out and bought a new tank! I started cycling the new 75G FOWLR this past weekend.

I have only kept community tanks with inverts in the past so now I'm looking for some ideas on what can be kept in a 75G FOWLR.

She likes triggers, puffers, and boxfish, but obvoiusly they all can't go in the 75, so i'm looking for some past experiences of what will work well... I'm also trying to educate her on the number of fish that we'll actually be able to keep as well in a 75G. Wish I could have gone bigger, but space limitations currently make it tough.

I'm running skimmerless with a cannister running carbon. Live rock for breakdown of waste otherwise. and a 1/4" sand bed.

How about going for a community of smaller agressive/non-invert safe fish? Hawkfish are fascinating and gorgeous, but not safe with shrimp or small crabs and can be nasty. Likewise dottybacks can be vicious and may murder crustaceans. Damsels will live happily with these two, and you could consider a pair of maroons or saddleback clowns as well. A marine betta (comet) might work, as long as none of the other fish were small enough to fit into its mouth.

If that type of tank doesn't appeal, how about a dwarf lion and a small eel? It would be a less 'active' tank, but still beautiful to look at.

If you wanted fewer, larger fish or a single 'centerpiece' with a few smaller fish (damsels maybe), you could try something like a lunare wrasse, one of the smaller triggers, or a small-medium puffer.

Not sure if any of that will work, but maybe it gives you a starting point

no lunare wrasse, they are one of the most active fish i've ever watched. try a harliquen tusk, picasso trigger and a small tang purple? yellow?

I would second the above recamendations. just maybe suggest the yellow tang over purple because of size. also maybe a bluejaw trigger. puffers get really big or you would have to get a dwarf one. you could do a dwarf lionfish but you would have to leave out the fish that might eat its fins. One of my buddies has a yellow dwarf lion.

I have a bursa trigger, niger trigger, and a yellow tang in my 75. I have a feeling that only my triggers will remain when they get bigger. I'll probably have to take the others back to the lfs due to size and aggression.
