How much live rock do you have in there?
Thanks roader247! I have about 100lbs of LR in my tank.

RJ your tank is looking really good.
Is that your heater in your tank, if so , why not have it in your sump?

Thanks you two.

I don't mind the heater in the tank, my sump runs at 83 degrees all the time pretty much, so the heater wouldn't do much in there I think. The heater really only kicks on at night time or when it is really cold outside and my lower level get's cold with the heat rising to the upstairs where the Thermostat's located.

never seen a Tunze magnetically mounted? Same thing. You can use find some cheap cleaning magnets and silicon one onto the back of the sump and place the other half outside the tank. That way you get rid of those big brackets.

Looks good.

Thanks for the info purple haze, I was thinking more in the terms of the a magnet mod to help them restart after they have been powered off. I guess my thinking was not even in the right area for mounting it , that is a great idea that I have not seen yet.

Here is a few pictures from today.

Looks absolutely amazing! Can't stop looking at your tank! It's definitely the color I'm trying to achieve in my 75 gallon. Right now I have 2 250 watt 15K XM's alongside 2 110 watt URI Super Actinics, I'm just not getting that crisp white blue I want, such as yours. Could you describe your light set-up a bit or link me to where you have?

rj 4 questions. .

How old is your sand and how do you keep all the unprocessed grey gunk off it? Do you attribute it to your flow? What's your turnover?

What kind of sand is that?

What do you plan to do when dori gets 1 foot long?

What kind of lights, how many ks of intensity?

rj,
How do you keep your tank so clear. We've done everything and still our water is minutly cloudy.
I run a carbon bag 24x7 in my return area and change it out every 2 weeks, I also run Phosban 24x7 in there and change it out every 2 months. This carbon takes out that yellowish look water can get over time as well as some odor and maybe anything on my hand when it goes in the tank, and the Phosban keep my phosphates down. If your running carbon and have tryed a lot of things, Is you glass getting algae on it quickly which could be a phosphate problem, is your tank getting any direct sunlight which can cause a more cloudy look.

I would start a new thread in the Reef Chemistry forum and possibly get some people to maybe point you in a direction of what to try and clear that up.

Thanks Rock Anemone, here are some pictures of how I did my canopy with just the 2x250w MH running the South Pacific Sunlight 14k bulbs that came with the retro kit. I am probably going to get 2x54w T5's retro somewhere down the line, but maybe not because things are looking and doing well. ( I am just not sure what I am doing with that yet ) My MH's sit about 10" from the top of the water. You can see in the full tank picturn at the bottom, that the look was on the blue side for about a week and then mellowed out more towards what you see now.

1.) Some of this sand came from my 55g to seed this sand, but most this sand is only 4 months old which is the life so far of this tank. I have a sandstar that depletes some of the life out of the sand but is great in keeping the surface clean as well as moving it around a bit. I also have 2 Skunk Clowns, a Clarkii Clown and a Lawnmower Blenny that brush a lot of sand around with there tails and I am sure that helps in keeping things moving.

2.) I am pushing 3060gph around the tank giving me 34 times the water volume for movement, which is not to bad at all and helps in keeping things moving around the tank.

3.) I have 2 bags of a Reef Sand that is not live, but silictate free and 2 bags of caribsea fine live sand, as well as about 12 cups of live sand from my previous 55g tank.

4.) Hmm... I am not sure Dori will get a foot long, but we will see when the time comes as to how full of corals this tank is after another year or so. ( An in-wall 180g is in the future sometime possibly ) I have to keep that on the hush so my wife doesn't hear, but I may open a special savings account and start packing money away for it.;)

beautiful tank... it's simply inspiring!

i've read through the entire thread, and i don't remember seeing a single picture of your LM blenny. Do you think you can post one? Reason I'm asking is LMB is one of the fish I plan on getting if I ever upgrade to a bigger tank. :)

oh yeah, awesome aquascape. I think distinct and well set aquascape is one of the key elements to a well established reef.
