At a LFS, I've been watching this piece. It started off in the $69.95 tank, and has slowly been working its way down over the past month or two until yesterday, I saw it in the $24.95 tank and decided that now it was almost 1/3 of its original price, and the fact that I found it quite interesting to begin with (just didnt have the $70 for it originally) that I'd go for it. This, of course, meant that I dont eat today but thats ok, I can eat any other day :p

It was kept under low light (two 30W VHOs in a relatively tall tank) but seems to be doing well. I am acclimating it to MH as we speak, because its not staying with me for long - this weekend when I make the trek home from college, its going into our 150 - obviously in a shaded spot.

While I find its coloring interesting as it stands, I also hope it colors up a bit. But this leads to my question - does anyone have any explination for the grey band of polyps through the middle of it? This coral has been at the store (with the grey band) for close to two months now, and has show no changes other than growing a bit, so I dont believe it is a bleaching event. But what do I know :D

Glad I could share this with everyone!

Thanks guys - like I said, I've been watching this one for a while. Its going home to the 150 today, so hopefully the trip goes well, and it settles into its home nicely. It's doing well in the barely established frag/holding system I've got up here, and its feeders come out at night, its flesh is nice and puffy, not receeding. Despite the lack luster colors, I find the grey strip to be worth the price :D

i have that same echinata morph. it does get alittle more color intense then the color it is now, but not much. mine has grown pretty slowly for an echinata though. great score though.

Here's a better picture under some better lighting. I'm really REALLY digging this piece, and I'm really digging the fact that it was only $25. Thanks for the compliments everyone - I know its not the latest greatest most colorful thing, however, in my mind, it is a fantastic show piece.

For size reference, its about 4-5" across.

This piece looks more incredible EVERY time I come home from college. This time, it'd been two weeks since I've seen it, and this is how it looks now:

My thoughts... it likes the 400W halides :D
