New Acros Peeling-shipping issue

Alright, so I got some corals shipped. Fedex screwed up a little, but I was able to pick up at warehouse by 1:00 PM. So I did a 45 min float to get temp right. I then continued to let them float and added tank water till it was 50/50 over say 20-30 min. Then I did a 10 min revive dip. Corals looked ****ed after the dip, not surprised since the corals came in water that was probably 60 degrees, then the stress of being dipped. I figured it'll take a couple weeks to get them to color up, no biggie.

A strawberry shortcake has looked unhappy the entire time, still looks unhappy. Three looked fairly ok the entire time, and still do. The other two are peeling. Is there anything I can do with the peeling ones? Do acros come back from this? It is significant tissue loss, I've dealt with nearly every acro issue but peeling, I am at a loss what to do.

cut them, or super glue them. Some Acroporas don't do well in revive, and need lighter/shorter dips (or not at all like ora belina)

ehhh...I tried to pull them to frag and tissue was just blowing off left and right. I just put them on the frag rack and am going to hope for the best...there was only a couple specs of tissue left, maybe I get lucky...I've had corals rtn, but never seen flesh fall off like this

I would never dip corals for that long, especially right after getting them from a delayed shipment. Lesson learned hopefully.

What is responsible then? I'm not putting anything in my tank not dipped. If you can't dip corals after shipping, I am just not going to get corals shipped.

Are you buying frags? If your buying captive grown frags from hobbyists then I dont think it's very likely they will have AEFW. You might end up with RB, IMO that's an easy fix. It's much easier to treat some frags after they are acclimated after a few weeks. 9/10 times if you dip a coral right after receiving it, I'd expect it to RTN.

If your wanting to order a lot of frags and maricultured acros, I suggest getting a qt tank going. It shouldn't be tied to your DT.

These were high end frags from an online company. Our current house is too small for a qt to be setup. So your advice would be to add the corals to display and dip later? I'm currently restocking my tank after aefw. I lost thousands of dollars worth of corals, like 25 mini colony to ten inch colonies. I had dipped 75% of the time, everytime except from "trusted people". I'm not really trying to take any chances. Under normal circumstances I would do a 15 min dip, but since the water was cold I cut back to 10.

Sorry to hear about your AEFW, I have no experience with them. I can only suggest what works for me.

I just wouldn't have further pushed weak corals with a dip, especially if I had just spent a bunch of money on them without any refund in sight.

It's my understanding it's pretty easy to recognize AEFW in the early stages and control and eventually get rid of them.

You can get aefw from anywhere its like unprotected sex. they are hard to see since they take on the pigmentation of whatever they eat. usually you don't know that you got them till they have destroyed the base or underside of the coral.

that sucks what happened to you with the delayed shipment. I would've dipped them too. hopefully you can do something with the company since it wasn't completely your failt.

Sorry to hear about your shipment not doing to well. Whenever tissue starts to peal off it's never turned out well for me.

I'm honestly stunned that after your experience with AEFWs that your house is somehow "too small for a qt".

Yeah, I think my house is big enough for a qt, my wife does not unfourtunately. My strategy is to do large purchases so that I don't have corals from 20 tanks. I've got my tank restocked from four tanks this time, last time I would go get an acro from anywere if I wanted it.
